Odd question here, don't ask why, it's a long and uniteresting story....

How much is the "wet" weight of a pilot?
How much is the weight of the total Engine and drivetrain on a pilot (including tanks, airfilter, motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )), trans, axle, etc.).

Basicly my question is what would the total weight of a pilot be without the entire drivetrain?

Asaszn

It's really not interesting and will likely never go anywhere...

I've owned a few differant comapnies over the past 10 years but never my dream company - owning a buggy manufacturing comapny pioneering the use of electric power (EV Buggy). I have a small group of people working with on the side to build out the product. I've spoken to a few investors and continue to work through possible models for a prototype, I've got a few small investors but the large ones we'd need need a proof of viability prototype.

The build requires a donor vehicle, we've looked at everythig to chinese buggies to in house designs. Pilots are a natural consideration given my lust for them. We want to try an in hub motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) design so we wouldn't need the drivetrain, just the empty space in the vacant Engine area for Lithium Ion and some electronics.

in the end, it's unlikly the Pilot carcass would work, the Engine area isn't really big enough for our purposes and the batteries would mess up the weight distribution too much I'm afraid.

SEE, I told you it was boring.

It's a cool idea, something that I have thought of myself. motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) technology is definitely there. But I still think that today's battery technology is not quite there to make it feasible, but maybe I am wrong. Mostly, the run time needs to be pretty long since no one wants to have to recharge during the day while playing. Batteries (even Li-Ion) are still pretty heavy so I'm not sure if it's possible to get a vehicle with a good power to weight ratio. But it is definitely worth looking in to. I'm a mechanical engineer and work at a place that builds robots and hybrid electric vehicles, so I have some experience in this area.

I don't think the Pilot chassis would work too well as a donor. Really, building a custom chassis is the only way to go IMO given how different it would be than a gas powered vehicle.
