Looks great in the recoil actually. Took it all apart and it looked new in there. I found out that there is a comet clutch on it, which is good. However, it looks like the driven is stuck closed, even though there is no rust or anything on it. So its always in "low gear" now. On top of that, 3 of the 4 bolts fell out that hold the reduction case on the frame (or the original owner forgot to put them back on when he serviced it last). Anyway, it was hanging on by one bolt when I noticed. That may explain the stuck clutch. I found a reduction case from someone here and I will get the driven fixed. But in the end I'm not sure if any of this would cause it it to die though? |

It took so long to reply because I took everything apart and either replaced or fixed it. -Recoil: took apart and cleaned. -Bottom end: New seals and gasket -New primary and new (used) secondary clutch -New (used) reduction case -New fuel pump -New fuel filter (all the lines fine) -Recleaned the carb and set the float etc. Had the local Yamaha dealer look it over.He adjusted the carb and it runs fine. In the shop it will idle forever. As you as you ride it though the problem comes back. Starts first or second pull. Rides fine (but not quite as strong as it used to). So I ran it up and down the street twice-stopped and it died and wouldn't start. Or it would start but even full throttle and it couldn't stay running. 10 min later Re-started first pull. Ran it for 10x up and down the street this time. Totally fine. In fact if anything it felt stronger. But as soon as I let off the throttle, it died and wouldn't start or like before started but wouldn't stay running even at full throttle. Help please! |

You need to figure out if its running out of gas or flooding when it acts up. Does turning on the choke help or hurt? |

Putting the choke on automatically kills it. The throttle stop screw has to be all the way in for it idle and not die. Oddly before the rebuild, it had to be all the way out. I also played with the air screw and it doesn't do as much, but being out seems a bit better. When the throttle stop screw is in, it will idle and run but will die after I do a few runs, like I said. Its only when I let off the throttle that is dies though. I think if I kept on the throttle it would go forever. The bleed lines are pretty dry. I left them out of the crankcase and didn't see pools of gas. By the way, I also just used the carb rebuild kit and replaced the jet needle, the slow jet and the float valve. The float is at 20mm. When it dies I can sometimes save it with more throttle. More white smoke than usual when I do that. Thanks again |

what position is the C clip in? is there any fuel left in bowl when it dies? |

The c-clip is on the middle notch. I think there is fuel in the bowl, but I'd have to take it apart without spilling anything. Since the throttle stop screw is all the way in for it to run at all, doesn't that mean there is too much fuel? I have a larger than stock fuel pump and that may be the problem. I tried to put in the stock one back in again and it ran for a minute or so and I could turn the throttle stop screw out and it kept running. That pump isn't working well though so it stopped. I think I will put back in the larger fuel pump and add a clamp on the fuel line to dial down the amount of fuel its getting. |

It was flooding, so after wasting a day trying to limit the fuel going through the overly large snowmobile fuel pump, I decided to take another look at my stock one. When I got the odyssey, I took it apart and cleaned it and reassembled it based on this diagram: http://www.servicehonda.com/hard%20part ... 20page.htm Of course the order of the flapper pieces was wrong!!! Rode it for about an hour today and no problems! There is a bit of gas that spews out from the carb into the crankcase and out the bottom enlarged slot in the crankcase when I stop, but I guess this is normal? |
