Post subject:  pilot crank case problem

there is a very long story regarding problems with my pilot i bought from a friend. you can read on my previous post regarding my crankshaft problem. I have the replacement crank and this week have torn down the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) and when I got to the case I noticed both halves were pretty gouged out in the center where probably the rod had rubbed in the past when the lower bearing had failed and had been replaced. I didnt think that was a huge deal until I saw a crack in the right half at the edge where the halves meet. I will post pics but I figure I'm done. already spent over $650 on parts to replace the ones that were obviously ruined before the case was opened. Any ideas would be appreciated.

First thing that needs done is the gasket surfaces lapped on a lapping plate to see if they are flat, if they are not flat then their will not be the proper clamping force evenly distributed on the gasket surface this could cause a leak.

Next you need to make sure the gasket surfaces match up it looks like its bent where the crack is if the 2 cases don't match then you cant expect it to compress the gasket fully and seal.

The crack looks non structural to me you could clean the cases then apply JB weld on the inside and outside of the the cases to seal up where the crack is.

Looks like minor dress up work could be done to the cases where the crank made contact just to smooth things out.
