Post subject:  Project Wiggens Pilot! CSI And More

For quite some time now Wiggens has asked me to work on his Pilot and
provide some enhancements to its performance, I will be pointing things out
I find wrong or not to my liking as we squeeze a little more power out of
his machine, (hoser enhanced) right now other than the drive clutch it
looks pretty much stock, its nice out today so I took it for
a ride around the yard, before going I checked the spark plug and
compression, 135 lbs on my tester, little low, we will find out why when
I pull the top end apart for inspection, the plug was plenty wet and not
lacking in deposits, he is using the wrong spark plug boot or it looks like
one without a resistor this upsets the balance of resistance between the
plug, wire, cap and coil, the cap was arcing you can see the carbon trails
(red arrows) on the plug and body of the plug, he is using the correct heat
range unlike many others who just op for the good ole "I run B8ES in
everything I own"

don't forget to check out his prefilter modification

I sure hope mine wheelies all over when your done.

Hoser I have a new NGK plug cap for the Pilot. I will send it w/ the rest of the items when I get them. That is one that I bought out at LS last year and have not replaced yet.

Send me an email when you get a chance.

The bottom side of the top ring is showing its age, the chrome? plating they put on
is starting to blister, this is a cycle life issue, run them too long then the plating
starts to flake off.

With nice bevels like that I'd have to guess someone has been in there...
Why they didn't clean up some of the casting flaws is my question...

Here and there on the cylinder and head - MY ASS...

My macDizzy ported Engine doesn't do wheelies either...
I'd have to guess that there is more than port matching and flow corrections going on...

I will however call his bluff on "giving Lightspeed a run for his money"
Putting a 400cc Engine against a 600cc Rotax - It ain't going to be pretty...

That is a orignal Honda cylinder on the first bore, most all of them look that way
they add a bunch of bevel to the ports.

Your Dizzy Pilot don't do wheelies it just spins the tires?

belt.

Lots of mud in the airbox, running without the lid? See the K&N oil
right where its not supose to be, one of the things I don't like about
their filters, the oil has no cling and its effectiveness starts to diminish
shortly after it is applied to the filter.

The fitup of the new pipe to the manifold is not all that great.

I worked on it for a 1/2 hr or so trying to massage the metal around for a
better fit and flow, this is a jig issue with the MFG. IMO they need
to be using a manifold along with their jig when they mock up to
weld it together for a better alignment between the 2 pieces.

Yes I was running with out the lid. The new prefilter set up and Uni main filter will change all that.

Tell your son he is welcome. I just got my '83 250R all back together and running today and my 85 350X today also. Gonna put the 86 250R together tomorrow. It was a good day for twisting wrenches and riding here in MO.

I think that pipe is still advertised as a "hand formed pipe"
