Well here goes my first csi. Bare with me. Rebuilt my spare pilot Engine a couple hours of ride time ago. New top end, new crank bearings and seals. Was running a gncc race Saturday and after a light rollover and a splash into a huge mud pit the pilot wasn't running like it should have been. No bottom end at all and could hardly keep running. Top end was screaming like usual. after end of race I heard a lil chattering and figured it may be mud stuck somewhere and thought nothing of it. Next day I hosed heroff and fired it up...when I did it made a hell of a chatter so I shut it off asap. Got home and pulled top end.. looked great. Rod was good also. So I drained the oil, pulled Engine and side cover off and heres what I found so far

this is all the farther I have gotten. Anxious to see if I can see originally got lodged between the gears and caused this mess. So far im pretty certain everything in lower end is still good and only need to replace some things on this side! But question???? Could all of that metal build up on the pickup affect my low end performance??? I was convincedit was a carb/mud issue with what I drove through...but?? any suggestions so far

Hmmmm......must have been an addendum to the original manual....that page is not in mine....... :-)

That is a lot of metal, what do you think so far could have caused it, it seems like something actually got stuck in there and jammed the teeth....

good luck with the csi, kinda interesting to find out what caused it.....

You have more pics of this chunk that looks like the chunk that should not have been in the case.

That's the piece I mentioned in other post...doesn't look like cast material like the gears do.....and has been smashed and stretched...hoping to find out where that came from as I think that's the culprit

Is it me or is the top balancer retainer clip missing? I can see the bottom one but nothing at the top just the bolt.

Its why I asked for more pics looks like a chewed up retainer to me, I still need to look over the stator assembly in the shop to see if anything could fall off or break off and look about the same but waiting on more pics first :-)

Well after looking at pics myself....something looked odd..went into garage and found both retainer clips are broke off? I saw them still under bolts...but are way smaller than they should be... Are these accessible still? At first glance they looked fine....good eye guys! Now did they break and kill the gear or did pieces of gear kill the retainers? Cannot for the life of me find my flywheel puller, so the csi may go on hold till I get garage cleaned out this weekend!!

Forgive me for saying this but to my eye 1 of those pieces looks like the end of a Phillips head screwdriver? Is the picture playing tricks on me here?

Sorry guys, I been lazy with the pilot last couple weeks...trying to free up space in space in garagee. I did take rest apart and found nothing else wrong other than both retaining clips were broken that holds thr balancer bearing in. Have no clue what happened there. Could not find anything else wrong. I did buy another balancer and gear off of TNT guy on eBay
Went to install it and it would not go into bearing? Looked at end of balancer and noticed it had been smack with a hammer or something at one point, so after a few choice words....it got tossed Into the parts pile. Luckily I bought the crusty parts pilot so I have the balancer and clips out of that Engine to use. Just haven't had time for anything the last few weeks
