So filling the clutch with oil isn't normal or a well known tried and true internet theory for long pilot clutch life? I turned it upside down and drained it out in a oil pan than stuck it on. I than torqued the bolt down to 60lbs.

Incidentally FloridaEd, When I tapped the center of the crank shaft I used your rope trick to stop the turning and it worked!

A word of caution on that rope trick. Your piston better not be exposing any ports when you feed the rope in or it might go down a port and when you turn the Engine it will cut it off. That piece will be inside. Piston must be near the top and not exposing any ports when you feed the rope in.
Just my opinion.

check your manual, section 10.8- clutch is supposed to be filled with grease. And apparently quite a bit. i have one on the shelf and one day while bored, disassembled and cleaned it out. It was full of grease as well.

Well I stand corrected. The manual does say the STOCK clutch has about 1 1/4 cups of grease inside it, or 10.5 oz. But no where does it say anything about GEAR OIL. Something smells here and it's not just the gear oil. Since you have already installed it I would run it to see if it even works. If it seems fine then I would pull it off again and take it apart for a CSI and re-lube.

I messaged the seller on Ebay about the gear lube. Here is what he said. I wonder if some of you guys know know him from here?

Dear 1daddyrat,

People have interesting ideas of what works best. I have heard of that before for better clutch hook up. I personally would put the clutch grease back in. If there is anything wrong with it I will always take it back. I did as the add said personally drove it and it worked fine. Let me know. Thanks Paul

Well that sounds a lot better than I was envisioning.
At least this guy seems to be standing behind his sale and is willing to take it back if it is not ok.
You now have it in writing.
Run it and see.

i have purchased a number of items from 909gunther and he is a straight shooter, never had any problems with any parts. Just thinking out loud here, if the manual (and all the Honda engineers) thought the grease was a good idea, i'd take their word for it.
