Part of the crank was just barely hitting the cases perhaps the raised metal
from beating on the crank shaft with a BFH ?

When the old rod failed you can see where it moved the metal enough
to not only affect the gasket sealing surface it also made 2 of the bolt holes
egg shape, these cases can be saved by lapping them down again.

If you compare this photo to the BFH photo you will see who ever installed the
crank pin did not center it in the crank shaft sort of like the crank that was
rebuilt by PCP this one did not stick out far enough to affect hit the cases like
Ludedudes did never the less it is not centered.

Wow hoser, so the noises the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) was making-the as I call it rod knock like a car, in your opinion was it the bottom end due to the bearings hitting the cases or a combination of the piston slap and bottom end?The previous owner is telling me he had this motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) rebuilt at a dealership near El cahon cali,I really do not want to let there name out but people in that neck of the woods may know them, the are a big time place. The old owner is now thinking they may have exchanged his old motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) for a feshly rebuilt from an outside company and then charged him for a "REBUILD",he is currently in negot. with them for his reimbursement of damages. Are the cases going to be ok for lapping, there wont be any clearance issues at all?The bolt holes that are oblonged, they can be saved Hoser?do I run the risk of these cases deteriorating from the crank scrapping the bottom of them, would new be better at the present?since it is all ripped apart?Of coarse I would like to save them and use-but would it make sense to just replace everything with new and save the crank, bearings, cases for a later date/time, the parts are getting increasingly harder and harder to get and these would make fine spares!!!Whats your views on it?BTW thanks for your time, hardwork, etc on this motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )), the pictures really help in the assoc of whats wrong and how to replace/repair.

I cleaned all the gasket materials off the cases then bolted them together you can see
the light coming through the match is so bad.

Hard to get a good picture of this.

A good view of where the rod made contact with the cases.
