Odykid sent me his cylinder for a tune up, who ever did the last bore job
didnt finish hone the cylinder properly the ridges left over from the boring
bar then acts like a file to wear out the piston and rings.

The bottom edge of the cylinder has a sharp edge on it that looks factory but
still should be removed, more on this later...

I cleaned up the cylinder then ran my hone over the bore to see if it will clean up
there is still a lot left to be cleaned up I quit with the hone so I can measure clearances.

Here is the piston, I hope Odykid does a better job at filter maintenance than
the last guy.

There is damage to the bottom of the piston and the side that looks like
someone hit the starter, pulled the pull rope or moved the Pilot with it in
gear whilst the cylinder was off and the piston beat itself on the crank
cases?

The head and cylinder are not flat, probably why the head gasket was leaking.
The outside edge on both the cylinder and head is higher than the center part.

You understand what I am saying right? there should be a cross hatch pattern
not just horizontal lines in the bore, see the variation in the texture?

Ok while your waiting for your parts to come it take a look at the big end of the rod
bearing, use a pick to gently roll the bearing around your looking for the spacer
between the rollers to ensure none are missing.

You can see on the new bearing where I painted it blue with a marker that is the area your
looking for that might be missing.

When you get your cylinder back from Wiseco you will need to wash it real good,
I cant stress this enough, plan on using a whole can of carb cleaner washing the
cylinder, when they hone the cylinder the grit from the stones will be in the ports
it will be like a fine dust coated with a thin oil you might not be able to see it but
it is there waiting to be flushed out with gas when your Engine is running, you need
to wash the cylinder inside and out, all the passages in both directions with carb cleaner
then blow it dry with compressed air once dry you need to wash in hot soapy water
real well, a used tooth brush works well in the port openings, a child s size tooth
brush works well in small areas also, once clean rinse with clean water then
blow dry, have some 2 cycle oil ready to coat the steel liner with because it will
start rusting soon as you pull it out of the water and start to dry it.

The studs were removed from your cylinder so the deck could be checked to ensure it was
flat and so it could be clamped to the boring bar and the cylinder bored and hone, is a
good work practice that after the cylinder was cleaned to take a tap of the right size and
chase all the threaded holes to ensure they are clean and in good condition.

The thickness of your head was reduced by .035 to repair the damage this could provide a
clearance problem for the head nuts to test you need to crank in a few studs then put the
head on without the gasket and snug down a few nuts to see if they bottom out if they do you
can file or grind off some of the length of the studs to provide clearances.

Can you get me a real detailed picture of the top of your cylinder I see machining marks
it looks like they may have machined or cut the top of your cylinder, I don't know why
they would have done this it was flat, I lapped it flat and left it smooth as glass so I
would be sure it would seal.

How about also taking a good close up pictures of the port openings so I can see
if they put a bevel around the ports it looks to me as if they didnt.

Take your cylinder outside in natural sunlight use your macro setting, take your time,
sometimes I have to take 8 -10 pictures of the same thing to get one clear picture.
