Afastcar has another spare Engine he wanted me to CSI

Packing was pretty good it was the box in a box thing but the Engine was allowed to flop around inside the inner box, no good, they also didnt drain the oil out of the balancer case.

The Engine is pretty "COMPLETE" it even has the stock clutch, someone removed the plug and the bolt but the rest of the clutch is still their, its not worth much its well worn but still usable.

No dowel pins in the cases for the Engine mount, better order some so when this Engine is ready to be installed your sure to have them...

With the clutch off you can see the crank seal was not installed square into the case, its hard to see in the pic but the left side is not in far enough.

Once removed you can see they had a hard time trying to get the WRONG TOOL to work.

Cases split, rust on the bearings no wonder they felt rough when you turned the Engine over by hand...

Top of the cylinder even had rust on it, the head was loose I assume the Engine quit running and they pulled the head then it rusted in storage?

Bore looks like the Engine was run without a filter and sucked a bunch of sand, I would like to see the filter setup on this Pilot, cylinder on last bore, new crank cases I bet this engines owner had a long and expensive life changing parts...

Quick list of parts needed.

4 dowel pins for the trans
2 dowel pins for the cylinder
cylinder replaced or new sleeve installed.
Piston, rings, wrist pin bearing, circlips.
Crankshaft rebuilt or replaced
crank bearings
crank seals
side case seal
full gasket set
reed cage (or use your current)

The crank cases look new, the balancer also looks new.

The crank has a blue mark on it, it looks like the big end of the rod bearing may have failed and the crank was rebuilt, I will take a closer look at it once I get it cleaned up.

Yes the cylinder can be plated but if I was going to plate one I would plate it while still on the Honda bores.

I cant install a sleeve I don't have a milling machine but Speedchaser DOES hmmm

o Hoser you can do it Bore the old sleeve out to new dimension of new sleeve.
Then grind new tool bit for top step on new sleeve
set stop for lip depth
put new sleeve in freezer for a day and slide in jug
and hope you get it wright on the first try

thanks speeed

Doesn't the original cylinder have a sleeve already? Put the cylinder in your wifes oven at 375 for an hour. Makes assembly and disassembly much easier. Kind of like removing steel pocket bearings from aluminum cases. Heat up the case evenly and the bearing literally fall out.

The factory sleeve in the Honda cylinder is cast in, I am told they have something on the outside of the sleeve that locks it into the aluminum once cast, must be ribs or something on the outside of the sleeve? I know I can take the cylinders off my 440 ROTAX and put them in the oven and heat, once hot the sleeves will drop out, some Engine builders remove them to make porting easier.

interesting ideas about the sleeve, since I have a jug with a broken skirt I may try that oven trick and just see what happens.
