davidafco sent me his Pilot Engine for a CSI. Some over all pics before disassembly, has the classic build up of Mid West mud, you know the stuff that etches itself into the aluminum and is about impossible to clean, also can see the exhaust was leaking.

Crank cases split. So far everything looks good, crank and rod in good condition, cylinder just needs a hone, crank bearings and seals, piston, rings, etc will be replaced.

Parts have been ordered. If something is backordered I will let you know asap. That dirt was from a old stripper pit in southern Indiana where I use to run it. Not a large area but was fun What is that washing you mentioned? |

See where their is no black (carbon) on the head that is where the fresh fuel charge has washed it off, notice where the clean area is that is the rear of the Engine, look at the cylinder see where that rear port opening is aimed up towards the head? See the green spray up to the head in the animation, its job is to sweep and follow the products of combustion out the cylinder and into the pipe where the returning pulse wave in the pipe forces it back into the cylinder before the piston closes the exhaust port. |
