I have been having some trouble with my 350 running rich, it just started a week or so ago. But now I think that I have that figured out but sometimes it will backfire while trying to start it. Also when you go to full WOT (Wide Open Throttle) it is not going into the powerband it is wanting to surge. I am thinking that this is in the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) and timing not being advanced. What does it sound like to you guys? If so where can I get a CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition)? Thanks Billy

Could it be a problem with the reeds?

I have wondered that myself. I have looked at them and they look ok but I am thinking of replacing them anyway. I just don't understand why it backfires sometimes when starting up. Thanks I'm up for any help....

Check the two wires on the switch on the transmission.

I have already checked them. the gray wire is connected to the ground on the battery. I read somewhere that both wires had to be grounded, is this true because the other wire that goes to the solenoid was getting 12v on it thru the solenoid. I am looking for another one now. That wire should be grounded also. Could that cause it to backfire out of the exhaust? Thanks Billy

I haven't had a chance to take pics yet, but I think I have figured out the backfirng problem. I think it is due to low copression. What do you think?

You tried another known to be good spark plug and it still backfires?

I never found a bad CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) or coil yet on any ATV seen a lot of them changed because owners think they are bad usually its a no spark problem not a backfire.

Backfires are usually caused by the ignition igniting the fresh air fuel mix at the wrong time the key on the flywheel could be partially sheared and has altered the timing.

I have checked the key and the flywheel, do you think it could be due to low compression? In my thinking if the compression is not high enough to squeeze the mixture in the chamber for the proper combustion to occure then it is going to detonate at times when it has enough compression built up in the chamber along with extra fuel mixture and that could cause the back firing. It would also make for a very rich condition if it does start up. I maybe wrong on this if y'all think so let me know so I can learn from this. I am open to all help and suggestions. Thanks Billy
