I just purchased an 1985 Odyssey that was not running. I took it to Escondido cycle in California, and the repairs are crazy!! They want $678.00 to rebuild the top end. $210 for a crab rebuild (it is not stock). $322.00 for a starter. $950.00 for rear joints. I want to keep this thing but the numbers don't justify it. I am in Menifee CA is there anyone that can help?

those are stupid prices. wish i was closer to help you out. you can rebuild a starter for like $30, carbs generally just need dissasembled and cleaned, top end piston kit is say $150 plus a cylinder bore (50 at my local shop). don't let them do the work. do it youraelf or find someone more reasonable.

Cheaper to do the work yourself. These machines are old and probably need a lot of attention. working on them is part of the hobby. Parts are getting hard to find but we always seem to keep them running.

If you want something you can just jump on and ride the odyssey/pilot is probably not for you.

If I had to pay someone to do the work on my 77 fl250 and 2 89 fl400s, I probably could not afford it.

Lot of good guys here to help.

Holy shit! Just stay calm. You came to the right place. Someone off this forum can do the repairs, and do them probably better than the shop, for much much less if you don't like turning wrenches. Post some pics of this ride if you can. Will give us a netter idea of it's condition.

This is probably closer to $500 total. Plus more if you need u joints. You probably don't though. The stock Honda joints are the good ones. A little bit of slop won't matter. Will last much longer than the junk one's off eBay. I've had my run ins with those. Unless they're broke I would leave those alone. If they have the grease zero they're the cheapo's. Start hunting a deal on some original axles.
