Billy,

The whole point of the bellows is to allow the expanding air someplace to expand to but still keeping the system completely sealed. When you poked a hole in the bellows you defeated the bellow's purpose. With even a tiny a hole in the bellows, the heated air expands and travels up the tube and exits out the tiny hole in the bellows and while the air is traveling up the hose, it is taking the oil with it. The only reason why the oil in your system doesn't travel any further than it does is because you used a large enough inner diameter hose which lets the air bubble up through the oil. I did a lot of experimentation and found with an open ended system and a smaller diameter hose I have seen the oil travel up the hose at least 2 feet.

With the Can Am bellows installed and the system completely sealed, the bellows will expand about 1 to 2 inches. This is of course dependent on how hot the Engine gets. I have noticed that on just mild pleasure runs, the bellows doesn't seem like it expands at all but if you are running hard it will expand significantly. Its actually slightly comical because as it starts to curve, it starts to resemble a banana.
