I am rebuilding the Engine on my fl350 and I have been thinking about this for awhile, the mod for the balancer oil pressure relief has been around for some time and works good. But I have done the mod on mine before and ran into the same problems that a lot of others have and that is oil being pushed up the tube and for some reason mine always seeped oil out where it connected to the fitting in the dip stick hole and was always a pain in the rear to check the oil level, so I have been thinking about it and this is what I came up with:

First Honda designed the casing to relieve the pressure thru a hole above the balancer that would collect there and should have only let pressure go past there in the hole in the base gasket across to the other half of the case then drop back down and go thru a hole by the stator. But as we all know that didn't work at all, it would eventually reach the start and screw it up and get oil all over the stator and that wasn't good either. Sooo Then the mod was done that we all use now.

This is what I came up with, use the holes in the gasket and on the casing side where a screw would be installed to stop the oil there is a pocket there to drill and install a smaller tube to release the pressure. This way you won't have the balancer gear slinging the oil up the tube and it seems to me that it will release the pressure in the same manner that Honda tried to do. I wouldn't do this unless you have the top end off for rebuild due to the shavings that get in while the hole is being drilled. Here is a pic. of the front of the Engine with the seat removed to show that there is plenty of room (thanks to Canadian Oddy).

This is what I am doing with mine. Let me know if you think anything could be better. Thanks Billy

Looks good just make sure you plug the hole that runs to the flywheel.

You can use this online program to edit your pics http://pixlr.com/editor

Thanks hoser, I plugged the hole the first time I done the mod. I like the photo program thanks. Thanks Billy

Good idea, I suppose you could tap anywhere into the crankcase volume, ask DBloudHarleys about his mod. I used to install a nipple on the balancer case cover, then hose to bellows, there should be some posts showing this mod. It might be a good idea to install a brass fitting in case that aluminum tubing bends or breaks?? Just a suggestion...

That's a good idea for a backup should something happen. At first I was going to put one just past the dipstick and then came up with this. But I could still put one there and cap it off. When I started this build I was going to put a vent in the side cover like you did but different people brought up a good point about something hitting it or the belt breaking and tearing it loose. So I went this way. Thanks for the suggestion, that is what I like. The more input on something the better. Thanks Billy

Can't remember who but another member did something similar. He placed a vent tube on the inside of the stator side of the case where Honda originally designed the vent.

As Stix mentioned, if at all possible, I would try a threaded fitting, not sure there is room though.

Glad to see other members using their head for something other than a hat rack! :-)

Thanks I was thinking about doing the same thing but decided against it because that would be another way of water getting to the charging system. The tube in the pic. won't be that long it was just a piece that was laying around, I plan on welding it in place then running a hose and bellows to it. Thanks Billy
