I have a 1985 FL350 which I just purchased a used water cooled Rands head off Ebay, a 1979 Goldwing 1100 Radiator with fan set up and plan on using "hydrosyphon" to cool it. I plan on running the fan continuously most likely by means of a pull switch which will be installed next to the ignition switch. My question is since my previously installed Digatron is the EGT/Tach set up does not have water temp capabilities has anyone used a cheap after market kind that can be installed inline in the radiator hose? I have looked on this site and on Ebay but have been unable to find a setup that will meet my needs. I don't feel like buying a new Digatron with that capability but would love a way to monitor the coolant temp for peace of mind since I don't plan on running a water pump. Any ideas/suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I saw those but that requires drilling and tapping the head, I was looking for something that would go inline in the radiator hose if at all possible

I am going to assume 3/4" to 1" just because the radiator just came in the mail today and I have yet to look at it since im at work currently

You will get a better reading if you put it in the head. Drilling and tapping isn't hard and if you do I would place it straight above the exhaust pipe, that is the hottest area on the head that you can get a temp. reading from. I would also suggest a water pump. Hope it helps Thanks Billy

It will thermo siphon just fine

Drilling and tapping is easy to do

If you can't do that then buy a inline plug

Seems like an easy modification to me.
The Rands head has fittings doesn't it??
Install a brass "T". Temp probe on one side and hose fitting on the other.
Heat rises right, so put this "T" at the top of the head outlet. Then cover the "T" with
tube foam to hold the heat. Reading should be accurate enough. By the way that's what
I have on my two fl350's and a temp probe starts the pump automatically via relay. I switch
nothing, it does it on its own when temp gets to about 190'F.

Exactly, and that's better than what I got on mine now. Mine looks Frankenstein compared to that.
The only issue would be that it is not right at the head but farther down the line.

Wow that looks to cheap to be true, even free shipping.

Really surprised LIEwire has not found them and listed them on his site for 29.95 + shipping.

That looks great, thanks for the help. I was hoping tapping would be last option seeing that if I ever parted the Ody out for an Engine swap I wanted all the parts as "original" as possible.

Im running one much like this on both my 670 pilot and 570 odyssey. Using an Autometer temp gauge. has saved my ass a few times. don't forget to bleed the air out of your water pump
