Just throwing this out their but the official fix from Honda was to lower the oil level in the balancer case.

After seeing the horrible mess the oil makes and how it can get into the starter if you have the Engine out and apart I would do one of the mods so your sure oil cant get into your stator/starter.

Doing the vent mod is the only solution.
The Honda lower the oil trick don't work.
It didn't work for me. Do the vent mod.
I gave you pics and everything you need in one of your posts.

The band aid fix Honda came up with of lowering the oil level in the balancer area slows down the transfer of oil to the stator area but still doesn't alleviate the problem. Even at Honda's recommended lower oil level, I had oil transfer on both of my Ody's.

Which is the best vent modification? I will say it's the one I came up with! LOL :-)

In all actuality I can't take full credit, I did some modifications to a mod I researched from another forum. Here is my take on each style vent modification, each having it's pros and cons.

Randman's vent modification Pros and Cons:
Pros.....
My vent modification has the benefit that no case modifications are required to the Ody and the vent assembly can be made with simple "off the shelf" items.
Cons.....
1.) The down side is that you have to remove the vent modification in order to check balancer oil level.
2.) The second down side is that the vent itself is in line with the balancer gear so oil gets thrown up into the end of the vent tube, however this isn't an issue if the balancer tube assembly is made with a large enough tube to allow the air escaping from the vent to migrate through the oil.

Balancer cover elbow fitting modification:
Pros.....
1.) The elbow fitting placed into the side of the case is not in line with the oil therefore is not prone to having oil pushed up the tube. Oil will still migrate up the hose but not as bad as with the Randman mod.
Cons.....
1.) The balancer cover mod requires the removal of the cover in order for it to be tapped for an NFP type fitting. This can be problematic if you run the tap in too far because it will ruin the side case.
2.) The belt guard has to be modified too allow a hose to be attached to the fitting.

Bellows V/S in line filter with open ended hose:

In line filter with open ended hose.....
Pros.....
1.) I can't think of any!
Cons.....
1.) The end of the hose is left open and dirt and sand can get into the system.
2.) Oil will migrate up to the filter robbing the balancer of the oil it needs.

Bellows system:
Pros.....
1.) This is a completely sealed system keeping dirt and sand out of the balancer area.
Cons.....
1.) I can't think of any!
