Since you are replacing a seal I am assuming you had an issue. If that is the case, then did you pressure/vacuum test the
Engine yet ?? Don't even start it until it passes the tests or your just wasting your time. You need to find out if the double lip seal on the other side of the crank is still good.
One good way to do a quick check is to see if your counter balancer oil is black. If it is then it has been contaminated with the oil/fuel mix. It must be clean looking oil. The sure way to know is to do the pressure/vacuum test. Always do this test with the intake manifold on. You need to check that unit as well for leaks. You can do it all in one go.
Also you NEVER RIP AN Engine APART WITHOUT DOING A PRESSURE TEST. This is an invaluable tool to let you know that your seals are still good. No sense ripping it apart and then finding out a seal is shot.
