Here are some pictures on my Pilot Torque Clutch, I changed the fiber plates as a matter of maintenance the measured thickness of my old plates was well within the factory allowable minimum thickness. What is the torque clutch for? well it allows slipage between the input shaft and the gears in the transmission so when you come off a jump and land still on the gas you don't split the trans like the FL350, the clutch will slip just enough to remove the drive line shock but not enough where the operator will be able to notice and slipage, I have been beating my Pilot pretty hard for 7 years so wanted to see what the wear and condition was of the clutch plates, the clutch plates are cheap enough so I just ordered a set to change rather than taking it apart to see if they needed replaced this also gives me fresh clutches in my trans and a good set of broken in clutches for my backup parts box. The bearings and clutch pack are cooled and lubricated by the trans oil the gears in the trans provide the oil circulation to these and other parts in the uppers part of the transmission, I would stay away from high viscosity lubricants that would reduce the splash and sling of the oil inside the trans.

Here is a exploded parts view, the whole clutch pack is easy to work on just follow the service manual instructions also make sure to stake the nut that holds the clutch pack on the shaft.
