The "D" ring is worn out and gone because the clutch was not installed properly in the past, this is a typical problem with the PB clutch not enough attention to detail was used.

On the outside the outer part of the cover is worn a little because the bolt was not tight enough and it was slipping.

Here is a PB cover that was repaird by HRD he grinds the heads off the D washer thing and removes it then makes a new washer and tig welds it on without using any filler material this maintains the clutches balance

The other side you can see where the rivets use to be.

You have to use a special "wear washer" between the cover and the end of the shaft where the "D" use to be you have to get these from a PB dealer, I got mine from HRD.

This may sound stupid, but is this the same clutch used on the 350?

Thanks

Jim

No the offset (distance from the back side of fixed face to the Engine) is different on a FL350, if you try to install one off a 350 onto the Pilot the back of the clutch hits on the Engine before you can tighten the bolt.

I meant as far as what they look like apart. Just curious I haven't had a chance to take it apart yet on the wife's 350. Wanted to know what I should loook for.

I totally understand the attention to detail when installing the clutches. It is really a design flaw and at 400 ish a pop they could improve the design. You shouldn't have to worry about the bolt coming loose when torqued properly. That also should be a thicker and stronger material with that D design. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge on this site. I bought an 89 Pilot in pretty nice shape about a year or so ago and I wanted one since I seen one on the showroom floor as a kid. Parts and such can be hard to find or very expensive so this site kicks arse!
