My first official ride report on this forum……
St. Anthony, Idaho USA - 9 July through 14 July 2012
Cameron (my #4 son, in a wheelchair
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10477" .".." .".." .".." .".. ) and my wifey stayed home this trip, and so did the FL350. I didn’t feel right taking it along, without Cam there to ride it. This is a long ride report, with lots of pics. I like showing pics of our trips (Hoser, sorry if it’s taking too much bandwidth – let me know and I can drop in the links only, in lieu of pics). The visuals seem to help get other riders enthused to make the same trips and visit/enjoy our remaining riding areas…. while they still exist. We try to make a fairly significant road trip every summer to a sand riding destination.
5AM, loaded up, with a quick stop at the local coffee shop before heading out for the 8 hour drive…..

A little plug for my other world…..

We stayed at Sand Hills this trip (it’s the only St. A’s camping area with natural shade/trees/lawn). It’s located on the far NE corner of the dunes. Great service and absolutely beautiful RV park, but a long way from the big dunes. Kenny and Katie rode the entire length of the dunes (round-trip), down to Choke Cherry, but were totally drained and running on fuel fumes when they got back to camp.
Weather was phenomenal, however upper 90’s, with the typical twice-a-day windstorms and evening thunder-boomers with awesome light-shows…...

The campsite (RV site, of coarse, even without the 5th-wheel)…..

The YZ250’s…..

The CR500’s – they both ran very well, but were both running a little hot, so they didn’t get as much attention as usual. Main jetting was a tad bit rich for 5000’ elevation (kinda blubbery at ¾ to
WOT (Wide Open Throttle)), but with the blowing sand, I didn’t feel like tearing into the carbs to try to lean them out…..

Miscellaneous…..

Some “artsy” stuff…..

The typical big budget “Go-Fast’s” (Kenny wants to build a long-travel sand car in the next couple years)…..

“Little Man” (my 21 month old Grandson). He was pretty content with an occasional ride with mom, and riding his electric Raptor in camp…..

He loves his “Poppy”…..

Kenny (my #2 Son) on his badass tricked-out EFI YFZ450R. Kenny recently won the battle with Leukemia, having gone through a bone marrow transplant at UWMC Seattle last summer. This week was his “celebration of survival” riding trip. He was hoping to get his machine in to Hanson Performance (local St. Anthony performance/tuning shop) for a couple dyno pulls, but the Hanson’s were busy having a baby – unfortunately in ICU. Congrats, thoughts and prayers to the Hanson’s…..

Kenny, Katie (daughter-in-law) and Little Man…..

Katie and Little Man on the 350 Raptor…..

Kenny and I…..

Egin Lakes (DNR)….. it’s a nice treat to stay here (not with the little kids though – no shade, and pretty boring for the little ones), either for base camp or just stop by on the way home…..

A “Howdy” from the locals…..

Little Man with his Dad (Kenny) and Uncle Corey…..

Little Man with Mom (Katie) and Dad (Kenny)…..

We had an uneventful trip home, back up to Washington through Montana and Idaho, but…… I knew I shoulda brought my fly rods for Montana!!
