Yes correct, but the dirty mobile MudFlap(as I used to call myself) scenerio,is testament to the fact that I was ALWAYS up their !@#$% waiting to pounce.
If your not dirty, then your not competitive,OR your in the !@#$%^ lead all the time! :-)
Just that when I did...they used to pass me down the straights! Then I'd get the better of em in the slower twisty bits, and we'd do it all again.
That was a stock Pilot, and was up against minimal MX 600cc + ZX9,1000cc++ MX Edge Buggys.
As expected the mighty Pilot punched well above it's weight...plus that Buggybaz knew how to get the best outa her as well! Image Image

Hopefully now with the 800cc AK-Pilot you will be doing most the spraying lmao

That was a great reliable Pilot, not much power,BUT was always the last man standing.
Was also the last one I kept...till I swapped it for my pool installation.

Spent this Sat sunny arvo fabing up my front top shock 1 1/2" (40mm) higher relocation brackets/mounts.
This will lower the FL800 Pilot's front stance/bias away from the rear, and hopefully reduce the frontal-lift-understeer.
Had to manually cut the brackets, gussets etc from a galvanised plate.Lots of trial and error.
No wonder Diablo took 2.22 Lightyears to make this badboy! :-)

Do you think since you made one set the next set would be easier? (usually is) if so I would make another set droping the front shock as much as you can without having to cut the fender and try both sets, I don't think you will feel much change with 1-1/2" drop, ideally you want the lower Aarms running parallel/level check out the front end on slickrick and Shoubadaba's cars, also can you feather the throttle or is the power band like a light switch on and off?

Also if you stiffen up the rear a bit and add some air pressure it won't push so much. Stiffen up the Compression side or add 10 lbs of nitrogen

I would like to test soon H,but my ol testing ground at Ab rd has been fenced off forever!!!!!
Really sucks that it's gone, was only a few mins drive away, right next to the airport land.
Here's a vid of me in Neil's ex LT500 Pilot, and #3 son toolin' around one Sat arvo.
Was a great day of father/son bonding, playing together etc etc.

Crank it up!...GO the QUO!!!!! :-) :-)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4IZR_fZI8s" .".." .".." .".." .".." .".." .".." .".." .".." .".." .".." ."..

Still have a bit more to do with dash instruments and trimming the hoody/reshaping.

afastcar, yes I DID make 2 sets. The first at full under/fender height. But then realised with the big 25" tyres it was a waste of time, smashsville for sure to fender.
So went halfway at 1 1/2" for first trials.Power is a bit like a light switch, but then again I have'nt had enough seat time to get on top of it.
I am still trying to design an adjustable shock mount, lets get those grey matters thinking huh?

Rusty, yes on the rear shocks, but they are already quite firm.

Here's some recent pics of the re-done hoody. Was'nt happy that I could'nt see enough in front, which would hinder viewing the angles for turning at the track.
Came up with this design, used some Poly Carbonate, not to be confused with plexiglass.
PC is the tougher resin designed for impact.Used in helmet visors, riot battons, ice hockey spectator walls, fighter pilot cockpit roofs etc.
Also used in NASCAR for their windscreens. In architecture it's used for roofing and will withstand large hail stones at 90kph.

Now with the plastic hoody, what do you all think about the colour? Leave it black and clean it up? Vinyl spray,or vinyl cover it RED?
Still need to trim off the windscreen bolts and shape the 2 upper outer flaps under the mirrors, and relocate the instruments.

Got impatient this arvo after work, and just wanted to splash some red colour on the new armour-gettin'.
I think it looks better than black, plus with some Pilot and race decals even better still.
Took some pics, and tomorrow will bolt on the windscreen back up again.

Are those 12" rims on the front? Are the stock rims and tires smaller/shorter? Ifso I would give that a try in testing.

You could always go with a less aggressive tire and more air pressure in the rear to get the back end to spin easier and try steering with the throttle by spinning the rear tires loose.

Yeah they're all 12" rims,26" tyres rear,25" front.
I am working on lowering the front for better downward frontal pressure.
Will most prob have to lower the whole lot for the flattrack racing, and raise for the other rougher, natural track events, jumps, enduros we have.
Another option is to trial with a set std size wheels off my other Pilot-the AC550 Pilot-24-11-10's and 21-8-10's Dirt Devils.Wayne has already warned me that the smaller wheels will result in too much wheel spinning tho.
Yes I know about the rear end throttle steering, been driving buggys that way for years, racing 5 yrs,but unless you have driven this LT with 130HP that just wants to launch......
I am having mega fun with it tho ATM,Thanks again Diablo..Even with the loss of valuable seconds TRYING to get around the turns, and running wide on every bend, the sheer acceleration of this Wildthing more than compensates to regain them! :-)

Now that I have serviced both the front and rear brakes,I'm sure that by now be able to lock up the rears alone are going to aid the turning 50-80%

Besides...having 130HP at ya back, minimal steering capabilities, no brakes, and being chased by a school of feral BusaCudas around a race track, really hones your driving skills! Image

Bazz,

Glad to see your keeping Elvira close....I knew you would like her, funny I only put her on to sheild "Honda" symbol from the customs agents - kindof going against the "MAN CODE" to take her off, but any other sticker no problem, but good to know your keeping the CODE. I tell Lezlie that YOU put her on, and yea here in Cold white north you NEVER see any skin clubbin' or not - too cold.

Don't worry Diablo, your Elvira secret is safe with me Mate! :-)

Here's todays update, relocated all the instruments to the dash bar,all rubber mounted and NOW protected by the hoody and Poly carb windscreen.
From left to right,Racepak,Tacho and digital water temp at base, then a coolant loss sensor alarm
Last race meet, the Racepak and Tacho were plastered with clay,Diablo would kill me if he saw it.

Also wanted to dabble with the hoody colour, design etc.
This is the first prototype, what do you think?

Turned out great now if you improve the steering and get it steering good as it looks you will be out front throwing the crap on the rest of the guys :-)

What kind of plastic is it where did you buy it I need some to make a side shield for my clutching.

Thanks for the comments blokes. I like it too,but as we all know it's an ever changing-developing thing.

H,the plastic comes from one of my customers, they import special german scaffolding system, and this is what they line the sea container's timber floor with.
I'm guessing that it's used to protect the timber floors from damage and subsequent claims from the container hireres.
I love the stuff,it seems to have similar or better qualities than the OEM fender material.I asked them what's it like in the sun,and they said it does'nt crack.Bliss!
It's very flexible and maleable, even does 360* bends back on itself without the whitening or cracking.Has a good shape-memory too...like my beer-belly!
Only thing I wish it had...RED COLOUR!
Next hoody will be in real red,I'm going to ring around the plastics people during the week and buy a sheet of suitable RED.
I'll then use the current sprayed hoody for a pattern, and extend the plastic over the tops of the fenders for extra protection.

Now with all this extra weight this FL800 is getting in race-prep,I suppose I should be compensating by losing some Baz weight? !@#$% did I really say that? :-)

Damn that bloke Al Zeimer!

Swapped the front tyres today to smaller 24-8-12 BKT WINGS on the front Vs Mudlites 25-8-12,also have MUCH better contact patch area.
Notice the tread pattern has more actual tread area.Another thing is,they are def heavier, maybe due to the extra tread rubber, and hopefully keep the front down??

Just finished the Tammin Enduro Event Downunder over the long weekend.Tammin is a small town in a farming area in our wheatbelt about 170kms ENE from my house in Perth.
2 day event,Sunday 5 laps,5kms/lap,+Monday 7 laps @ 5kms/lap.Total 60kms.Rough natural terrain,got even rougher after each lap and day.
12 buggys started,only 3 finished.Only one Edge Buggy,Michael’s Piranha,and a Polaris RZR 2 seater,and of course the mighty PilotFL800 lives! :-)
Take a bow Ak Wayne.Only issue I had was the Pilot suddenly free reving on Day 1,3rd lap.Had to undo the helmet, harness etc to check around the back.
Belt OK,clutches OK,driveshafts, boots,RPM trans all OK.Then WTF is it? Maybe check the shifter INCASE it jumped into neutral? Yeap!
So jump back in,redo up all the gear and off I BLATT to make up.Cost me around 3 mins?

Here’s a vid from another member:Double click on pic. This is the smoothest section, outback was hell.
