Is this the pic looking to the East on the East end of the dunes?

Their was some distant trails I wanted to check out one of these days that looked like they went on for a really long ways, need to find a DNR map see if they are DNR or private.

I plan to save a week of vacation to elk hunt with Nukem next year. You guys should make a guys trip out. We could all go at the same time. At the moment IL has deemed me a criminal. My foid card lapsed. Once my foid card renewal comes back I'm going to pick up a new 30/06 and a nice scope to dial in for it. Pretty sure we're the only state with a foid card requirement. Says in the law they have 30 days to deny or issue a fresh card. Sent it in 7 weeks ago, they cashed the check 4 days later, still havnt got my new card :-)

Nice shocks! I think i'd be in tears. Those darn things are expensive. Hope you can rebuild them on the cheap.

I see why you want to learn to rebuild them yourself. Gonna get expensive sending them out to be fixed after every trip.

That place looks like lots of fun! Not sure about when, but I for sure want to make a hunting trip with Nuke Em. I just got my new Tasco Varmint scope, 6x24-50 and am going to mount it on my 30-06 Remmington model 70 XTR. I inherited the gun from my Dad, it has never been shot, and is in pristine condition! I almost hate to mount anything to it and shoot it...well, maybe not lol! I'm not into shelf queen shit. I also have a .270, a .257 Roberts, a 300H&H and a 300 Win Mag that have never been shot.

That's a lot of guns. I don't have any serious hunting rifles. Just .22 stuff for plinking. What I'm looking at for a hunting rifle is the Ruger 30-06. It's $450 brand new which i like. Then around $400 for a high quality scope. I don't care for the composite stocks. Is there any advantage to that or is it to lower manufacturing costs? Was talking to my dad last night and he says I should get a Remington 700 even if I need to buy it used with a scope already on it. I wouldn't mind buying a new gun though. I've got all mine through trades or by finding smoking deals I couldnt pass up. Never really picked one out for myself. Don't want to spend a fortune though either. I don't see me using it very often. Just recently ordered some 80% complete 10/22 receivers so I can build Mary and I each a blinged up plinking toy. Those will be guns that actually mean something to me. If I ever find the time to build them. Gathering parts and tools to do it now. Will need to take them somewhere to machine the barrel holes for me.

Here's the rifle.

The scope I was thinking.

The receivers I ordered. The left out the part about the barrel hole needing to be done with tools I don't have and won't buy for 1 project. Hope they didn't forget to mention anything else.

Fatcat, it's so nice not being in Illinois anymore! I don't need anything to buy guns or ammo- no more stupid FOID or any other bs. Ammo is plentiful too over here in hoosierville!

My foid card still hasn't showed up:-(
Total joke. They cashed the check AUG. 8th. Silencers are forbidden here to. I'd like at least 1 for Mary's gun. Guess not until I leave this wonderful state. Like you couldn't drive over to IL with yours if you were going to do something bad with it. WTF! They want us to go deaf I guess. Rules rules rules.

Fatcat - you need some ruger BX-15 magazines t feed the 10/22 you are building. I have 3 and they work well. I have a little intratec Tec-22 I like to mess around with.

Cool, I used to have a Tec-9. Was a neat looking gun. Didn't shoot it much. One of my buddy's made me a good offer on it so I let that one go. I'm not a fan of 9mm.

Are those the 5 round? I've got one 10/22 carbine. Was gonna use that magazine to test fire them then go to a 25 round clip or a 50 round drum if the guns function well. You want to sell them?

Anybody know where to get "proof" loads?
Any ideas on how to fire the first rounds out of a gun that I built? That's a scary thought. :-)

Heck not sure of your availability but I'm across the river waiting to dump corn right now.....
I can get in the harbor freight/ Hardee's lot but can't bring the big truck down small streets.
I think I may have read that wrong. You want to sell them or is that what you recommend?

Fatcat I haven't seen those receivers yet those are neat . Best way is to put it in a gun vise with a string on trigger and stand back way back and pull the string lol

They're really neat. What sold me on them is they don't have to have serial numbers or any of that other crap since I'm not a firearms dealer and they aren't for sale. I like the idea of big brother not knowing all I have. We also got a farm and fleet here that just looks at your foid card to sell you ammo. I hate going to Walmart and other big box stores. They scan your foid card. That means someone somewhere knows what kind and how much ammo your buying. That's an invasion of my privacy. I'm not a paranoid freak but I don't trust the government with the socialist behavior I'm seeing. I'd rather just be off the radar.
