Kuma and I have been talking about planning a Pismo trip this summer. I am open to dates ranging from June 10th or so to the 26th, and June 30th to July 31st. I know Halo will want to go, possibly Westecbuilder. Anyone else??? We need to get a few more guys with 4wd trucks since Kuma is the only one with 4x4 among the aforementioned members.

I'm sure I can con RidinDirty to go with me. I'm in the same boat as you Nick with the ole 2wd land yacht sized class C motorhome.

I would go if I could get a way to get out of the water at the edge of the beach!

Okay, so there is a Vandenberg rocket launch scheduled for 12:22am on the July 22nd and another on August 27, time TBD, no guarantee that the weather will be clear but I would like to be there for at least one of those, VAFB is not very far away, should have a pretty good view.
the July launch is on a Tuesday night, August 27th is Thursday, could be early AM like the July or ? How does that timing work for everyone? I would probable be staying for 5 or 6 days, maybe even do 2 Pismo trips this year?

Good to hear, Jason! Hopefully you will have better luck with the pilot than last time we met up there!

I'm good with the July 22 time frame, but the August one I can't do, I will be back to work by then and can't take that many days off in a row. Kuma, if your'e thinking of doing 2 pismo trips, would you consider one pismo trip and one coral pink trip? I have been wanting to go, just need to plan it out. PPP will be there memorial day weekend, but I am still working then as well.

I'd love to go, but how many hour drive is that, my back doesn't do so well for those long hauls, must be about 8 hours or something?

225 miles via 101!

You can make it! I'll be driving 406 miles from Carson City Nevada.

Right on, I hope I have better luck also :-) I'm fine with the July dates, if that's what you guys pick.

Says 423 miles from Corona, CA to coral pink. It is on my "bucket list" of dunes I want to experience.

So, for me I can do 7/21-7/26 or 7/17-7/22, if it's the first choice, I should be able to stake out a spot, I'll be hanging my trailer with the back facing the water with the wheels at the high tide line, I don't know how much water front property I could hold but at least enough to make a road to the high ground behind. if the 17th, then hopefully some one would be getting there sooner, like the morning of the 16th so we still have a chance at the beach.

I know I won't want to be the first one there since I don't have 4wd. Halo is talking about having one of his buddies drive his Tundra which is 4wd. My main concern, as always when taking a RV to pismo, is avoiding getting stuck! lol

Nick, what did you wind up attaching to the front of your motorhome so you could tow it?

I think the weekend of the 18th works better for me if that's good with everyone else. If yes, I would like to nail down some exact dates/times so we can arrive and depart together Kuma.

Rand, I just wrapped a tow strap around the front bumper like in the pic below.

I'll probably be good with what ever dates you guys nail down, what day I arrive, not sure......I don't want to say I'll be there the first day to help tow in and not end up there that day :-)

Thanks Nick.

I was under the impression you bolted on something complicated. The strap around the bumper is simplicity at it's finest!

I had to get towed out at Sand Mountain and we did it by dragging the Motorhome in reverse! Although it worked well, it gets tricky trying to steer when someone is pulling you from the rear tow hitch!

That is how I got out at Pismo, a rhino actually was able to pull me out in reverse. I was only about 50 yards inland, still sort of in the harder sand, plus I only had 15psi in the RV's tires. Normally, I will unload the trailer on the beach and unhook it and have someone else tow it in for me, as well as tow it back out to the beach when we leave.

So is everyone good with the weekend of the 18th?

Kuma, what days were you thinking of going? I normally like to make an extended weekend out of it. Leave super early on a Wednesday or Thursday morning so we can get through L.A. before the traffic hits, and return on a Monday. Let me know when you're thinking because I'm pretty much limited to your schedule since you have the 4x4 (unless Halo brings his truck along with his RV).

Jason, what sort of rig will you be bringing?

I'm planning to stay 'til Wednesday morning, not sure if I'd be going out Wednesday or Thursday, Wednesday is def better for getting a primo spot though.
