Call me a sap too, I cant make that trip. I already have plans for memorial day weekend. Cool thing is, That is the last week I have to work. I go in to work the tuesday after memorial day, but just to turn in my keys and close up shop, then am off for the summer! I am planning on taking my trailer and camping out at a buddy's house for the weekend and just having a weekend long party, but I discovered that my trailer's frame is cracked in 4 different spots! I will be patching it this weekend and am concidering not storing the RZR-S in the trailer. Just sucks because I have limited area for storage. Garage is full, will have to figure something out I guess.

Garden hoses ready especially since it is right next to the fuel tank! I learned my lesson with my old POS RV, I will for sure be ready if a spark flies a wrong way. Will probably take some old clean towels and soak them, then wrap the filler line for the fuel tank and where ever else it might need protection.

I am thinking it might have been cracked when we got it and we just never caught it. The floor has always looked sort of bowed, I havent really spent much time under the trailer.

Hey Bruce, you may want to rethink the trip to Sand Mountain over Memorial Day weekend!

The place will be an absolute zoo during a three day weekend! Unfortunately, the parking / camping area is not that large and it will be packed! It can get a bit crowded in the dunes on a big three day weekend also.

If you can wait until after that I would be willing to go for a run out there with you. The wife & I will bring out the Odys.

There is also another riding area out here for the RVing crowd.
It's called Walker River Resort.
It's in Smith Valley Nevada about 50 miles south of where I met you at Johnson Lane'

Full hook ups and you can ride your Ody right out of camp and into the riding area!
Small general store for the things you run out of or forget to bring!
Swimming pool!
Jacuzzi!
Skeet Shooting!
Fishing on the Walker River about 200 yards from the camp site!

(I sound like a salesman!)

From what I understand there is a ghost town you can ride to. I'm not sure how far away from the resort it is though. I have only taken the Ody's and quads out there once and couldn't ride that far from camp due to having the grandson in tow.

Here is the link. I think you and Kim would enjoy this area. This is where I like to go during the summer. You can leave the air conditioning running in the RV and cool off after a ride or just jump into the pool.

If you're going to go to Walker River Resort over Memorial weekend, you better make a reservation. Memorial weekend is usually booked up solid!

I won't be in town on memorial day weekend or I'd go somewhere with you guys. I'm heading to Utah to see my son Duane before he gets shipped out to Ohio for the next 18 months.

What or where is yearling? Are you referring to Yerington Nevada? If so that's pretty close to where Walker River Resort is located. Just about the whole damn state of Nevada is covered with fire roads and riding trails!

The Wilson Canyon Area is a very small play area. You can camp there but it isn't worth the trip. There are trails that lead out of the main ORV area but a lot of the are trails single track and it's very rocky. It used to be a larger area until geologists found fossil remains in the area and they closed a good portion of it down. I would definitely NOT recommend Wilson Canyon as a place to take an Ody.

I'm not familiar with any other areas other than Walker River Resort or Wilson Canyon in that area. Are you looking for a place specific to the Yerington area?

Have you called Walker River Resort? They may have an available spot. All it will cost you is a phone call!

I haven't been there before but I was wanting to try Lookout Camp Ground Dog Valley Ca. It's about 10 miles west of Reno off of highway 80.

Looks like it's a whole lot of fire roads that run throughout the area. Not a lot of trails but looks like a nice scenic ride. Looks worth checking out.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/htnf/recreation ... _ohv.shtml

Sorry not to be more help but all of the local places around here are just a few minutes away and not a lot of people camp at them. I don't make it up to around the Reno area much!

Here is a link for the ATV Fan site that allows you to type in your email, set a distance you are willing to drive and it suggests riding and camping areas. That's how I heard about the Dog Valley (Lookout Campground) area.

There are a few trails but most of the mountain is wide open. It has to do with the kearny buckwheat butterfly being native to the dunes only so a small part of the dunes that has vegitation is closed off.

Fair word of warning......get there early on Friday if possible. It's going to be crowded!

One of the things I failed to mention is you may get a free fireworks show! They are illegal but everybody brings them! And you won't have peace and quiet until about 1 to 2 am.

People race up and down competition hill all night long!

But all in all this is my favorite place! I wish I could join you guys!

Have fun and be careful.....

Rand

P.S. Take too many pictures!

That ought to put you there early enough to find a good spot! May I suggest that in order to keep out of the zoo in the middle of the camping are that you camp at the first available spot you can camp at immediately past the ranger's toll station. In this spot there is no one behind you cutting through your camp. See attached picture.

When you say Moon Rocks what area are you referring too?

Never heard of the Johnson Lane area referred to as Moon rocks before. That's why I asked. I have always known Moon rocks as the area "Hungry Valley" which is the area by Pyramid Lake like you mentioned. It's funny because the locals would give you a ration of SH#T if they heard you referred to Johnson Lane as moon rocks! They will very matter of factly tell you that Moon Rocks is north of Reno! Everyone I know out here even hates the thought of even going through Reno! Gotta love small town rural life!

You know, in the 20 years I have lived here, I have never ridden anywhere near Reno! There are just so many areas to ride locally or south of here without going to Reno. I remember driving through Carson City the first time and seeing riding trails in the middle of town. That was when the company I was working for was moving from Bakersfield CA to Dayton Nevada. They flipped the bill to let us come up here and check it out to see if we wanted to move with the company. When I saw the trails in town I said "Lets go!". Been here ever since!

By the way I've seen it snow in the mountains here in July! Have a good trip and be careful! Remember, take way too many pictures and post your trip!
