This being the only thing that trumps my sand time, Family first. FL 670R if you gona be there thursady am I may squize down for a ride of come Friday depending on Tedpilot and Drakmans arrive times. Hate to see you run the dunes alone when I could chase you around.

I spoke to Eddy, he sold the Taz after he wrecked it again trying to get the newly rebuilt Engine up and running, I think that buggy had a nasty cloud hanging over it. He still has a Pilot, says he has pretty much lost interest in riding although he will take his boys down for a ride around Memorial Day.

It sounds like there will plenty of people to ride with on Friday so I will plan on being there then.

There are several things hinged on whether I will be able to make it, so it will be a last minute decision. If I do come, it will be for Sunday only. Ill PM you my cell number so we can keep in touch and make some arrangements. I sure hope I can go!!

Good times this weekend. The weather was mostly good. Adnoh, sorry I missed you. Stix, carve out some time soon....my days in OK are numbered. Dennis (FL670), Dad (Drakman), and the Ponca City gang were all there. The sand was improving quickly today...probably like glass by now.

Yoshie from Sinister Sand Sports was out there with one of his busa powered 2-seaters. The car was much bigger than what I imagined from his pictures on his website. He was parked a few spots down. I never met him before but a nice guy in my book. Seems to know his stuff very well. He's definately a fabricator at heart.

We made several rides together. He was shooting video like mad too, links coming soon. We had the opportunity to introduce him to the "trails" and he loved it. We had a few very aggressive rides and thankfully everyone made it back to camp in one piece. Other than mowing over a bush here and there it was all good.

We stayed at the Double Deuce campground north of the north campground area that we normally stay in. Huge spots, plenty of trees, soem spots w/ grass and everything you need less showers. It's nice and quiet and about a 5 min ride to the north entrance. They take reservations and if you use them ask for spots 2 through 5 on the west side. They'll put your name on the post corresponding to your spot so nobody takes it.

Actually the campground name is 'Duces Wild', mapquest shows it on the east side or Hiway 281 but it is actually on the west side, it is on the first street north of the north campground entrance, from there, they have access directly onto the ATV trail.

I was so busy trying to keep up with the younger generation that I didn't take any, but Dennis did, he probably drove most of the night to get home and went back to work today, so he will likely post them later.

Once I get a link to the videos Yoshi took, I'll post them.

BTW Dennis, you will have to explain to the board how to pull start a Turbo Geo with CVT clutches, good thing we had our 'safety officer' along on the final attempt.

Yes good times once again. It was a little windy, OK a lot in the afternoon but the riding was excellent. I did miss Tedpilot due to the day I had to go because of work however Drakman as always put on a great chase. Once again he eluded me due to the top end and overall power of the tiger. Stix was missed as well I needed another Tiger chaser to real Him in. The Ponca City pilots where there sporting a nice new shinny RSR-S. I just can not get over how nice he restores and maintained his bikes. I had the pleasure of mulling over the pilot that Big Tom had owned and the mods done. Big Tom had it going on in the Mod department. Lt500( hope I got the handle right) has done some improvements to the Pilot which just made it that much better and much cleaner looking. Boy what I would give to play in his garage for the day. Fl670 as normal just drove like out for a Sunday drive with the exception of the Motorcycle jumping without a spotter, Dumb A _ _. I saw his ( motorcycle rider) whip and turned out however Fl670 was behind me and had to make an abrupt change as he viewed the bike in the air coming straight at him. Rut ru, all was good the possible accident was avoided due the skill of Fl670 reaction and experience. Fl670 provided me with great feed back on my rear shock setting and help dial it in ever better. After wards with the input I will make change in the valving and springs and change front springs as well to match new rear set up. Fl 670 also notices my fan rarely ran for the speed we were running and ask about the temps. The max temp on that ride was 178 Engine water temp located right off of head. I had jetted for 40% humidity and 80 degree day according to the forecast for Friday. I like to be around 200 deg water temp for max power. Since I was only wicking 178 thu the head it was a little fat. On the plus side it tells me the ring seal is still good. Since about 70% of heat transfer from the piston is thu the rings to the cylinder and the clearences they run. Thanks for the observations Fl670 deeply appreciated.

Well while trying to chase down Drakman the spedo registered 50.6 mph. In the sand for a pilot I do believe that's pretty darn fast. In the trails We hit top speed of 42 mph which is hooking considering the humps and bumps and short straights. The sand sandwich was lean this ride due to the lack of Drakman not using his paddles ans Tedpilot not being there yet. Never fear one of LT500 pilot dished it out for him. His pilots run as well as they look and they look good. The short trip on the side road to the dunes for the camp was a whooped up ride which most of the time I oped for all out at 46 mph max speed blow and go. I did have some bobble head going on but I just could not stand the low roll. This is where Fl670 came in and told me the rebound was heavy ( slow) at lower speeds and it was lifting the rear as it rolled over the humps. I ended up taking two clicks out ( making it quicker, opening the valve)which helped since he did not report it needed more after the next ride. Gotta love fully adjustable shock click ,click, click. No need to re valve unless you run out of clicks. In my case logging the change I notices I was about full open ( 5 clicks away) so I will take some compression and rebound shims out and re spring. I'm running a 95/200 for 65lb rate right now and will change it to a zero preload/95/125 for a 53 lb rate to go with the new valving. This will increase the sag about 2 more inches and put the valving in the middle range for dialing in. The low speed was five from full open and high speed at 3 from full open. The theory is to get them adjusters close to the mid setting at the new spring rate.

All in all it was a good day, no one got hurt no damage was done to any machines and we all laughed as hard as we rode. As most Know Drakman and Tedpilot are selling there tigers and will be really missed and we be a loss to the sport. The selfish side hopes they can not sell so the opportunity to ride with them will remain and the sportsman side of me hope they can sell and wish them well in the new ventures leaving me with found memories and hurt jaw from laughter and comradery.

Thanks for the invite, had a blast.
Adnoh

Yes another great ride...

Got to LS at 8am on thursday and after a quick stroll thru North Campground and Cowboy, I soon discovered that every last spot with electrical hookups was already taken..... WOW...

On my second pass thru North campground someone waved me down and said - Here's a spot and helped me move the table out of the way...

I unloaded ol blue and took her for a nice long spin thru the dunes...
(Note I rode all four days Thursday - Sunday and they were only collecting entry $ 1 time (Go Figure))
(along those lines they are really letting the place go to pot - when they should be protecting their cash cow - WHY)

Anyhow after lunch and another nice relaxing ride around the dunes I get a call from Drakman and he suggest I try and get some reservations at another campground "Deuces Wild" so we could all be together...

I hop in the Drak and CLICK... (darn - seems the starter has gone out)

Later I get this hair brain idea - that if I wrap a rope around the drive clutch I can pull start it
Guess what it works - and this is how I start the Drak for the next 2 days...
(Who would of thought you could start a geo car motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) with a pull rope ?)

Anyhow I'll post more with some pictures maybe later tonight....

I didn't take a lot of picts and very few action shots as no one wanted to sit still long enough for me to get the camera out...
I guess I need to get the helmet cam going instead...

Thanks to everyone that was there - great fun....
Dennis

Caution...before anyone else tries the rope trick, be aware that it didn't end all that well, rope got stuck in the clutch and rewound the rope and threw the handle (10" Crescent wrench) up into the Engine and broke the water pump. Luckily our 'safety officer' arranged us so no one was in line of the flying wrench.

LOL - Yea but this one does NOT have a happy ending....

On Sunday I go to start the Drak and its not working...
So after about 5 or so tries I decide that maybe it needs another winding of the rope around the clutch
so I change from using 3 wraps of the clutch to 4...

We also (since its cold) have someone give it a little gas via the linkage...

Sure enough it fires and proceeds to wrap the rope back up in the other direction pulling
the 12" Crescent Wrench I was using as a handle back at the spinning clutch at MOCK speed....

Jerry was sitting on the Key just in case but the wrench still found its way to the water pump housing
with missile like accuracy... After said brief encounter we now have a river of green flowing down the
side of the Drak....

It cracked the housing at the base....

So now I need 1) starter rebuild and 2) a new water pump housing.... LOL.....

I guess this is just the excuse I need to pull the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) and drop the Real Sprint Turbo in....

PS
I just saw Drakmans reply
(So I have to say had the "Safety Officer" not mentioned it - It would have never happened)
(That is just the Karma of the power of suggestion - Darn It)

LOL
Dennis

Looks like a plush ride, he sure like to take the short cut every place they go... I always follow the guy in front of me tracks and usually when turning take the long way around the outside.

The last stretch through the whoops is that him running down along the paved road into town through the 15 mph speed zone?

Yeah, it is really plush, there is also video of him following me, taken from the roof of mine looking back that shows how smooth it is. I think he said it is about 12' long and 91" wide, he was running 31" tires on it, great workmanship, looks like it could take on any crash and survive.

He had some little cameras that were pretty cool, they have a plastic cover that is semi disposable, after one ride they had chips all over, so he just changed the covers and was back at it. He said they were about $200 each, which doesn't sound too bad for the video it got. I don't remember the product name, Ted probably does.
