I will open one of the plates and take measurements. The application listed uses 2 of those plates and 5 of a different thickness.

Split the cases today as we suspected the bottom of the cases is full of old clutch material, worn metals, dirt etc. all parts is coated with the stuff.

The only way to get rid of all this crap is to split the cases and wash all the parts.

Once contaminated its hard to clean by oil changes, each time you ride the oil circulating in the trans heats up then the muck on the bottom of the cases is picked up and circulated with the oil dragging all its abrasives with it to all your parts, when done riding the particles then separate from the oil and settle to the bottom again until you ride again, you could probably flush it out by using a real lite oil then running down a 5 mile stretch of road then soon as you stop change the oil and refill with fresh, continue to do this until the oil drains clean but I doubt you would ever get it all.

The best thing to do is once you wear out a set of clutch plates pull the Engine, split the cases and clean it up, this never happens seen it many times, guys change clutch plates then crack open a beer :-) the next time they ride all the old clutch friction material is coating the inside of their Engine parts.

The next several hours will be spent washing and inspecting parts.

Judging form the overspray I see it indeed was a black color-true 85 motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )).I had the same type oil come out when I initially started it and tryed to flush out by doing the same exact process, run for a good couple minutes then change it.Any new parts needed Hoser you can see?I ordered a complete gasket kit for it alreay-shift forks, gears all look ok to you?

Parts are all about 50% clean, ran out of low odor mineral spirits need to make a shop supplies run before I can complete the cleaning process then I will inspect the parts.

Gear pics, some signs of wear on the engagement dogs but how much is too much, just file and sand down the high spots and go on with life?

Be nice to know how this thing shifted before I took it apart.

Where did you get them rubber bands you sent with the Engine? I could use about 100 of them...

Complete bottom end in parts. I have 3 engines that are complete thanks to craigslist. So any parts off my one that has the damaged side case are up for grabs if they were still in good condition.

Also picking up this for the GF http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/mcy/1225342102.html Easy project =)
