The only timing parts are the points and making sure your pawl is not sheered off. After that, it's all points adjustment. Loosen points adjust and then tighten. Rotate till that light dims as it hit's the "F" mark. I'm new to this as well, but the Manual and the homemade points timing light got me going.

My FL is a 83 so I don't have points because it is CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition)??? I think.

Oh, well that has to change things up. Sorry, my answer was for points ignition.

When you advanced the timing did you turn the stator forward or backward. It should go backward.Did you try hooking the wire you hooked to the yellow wire to the black wire.

Only thing I can think of is the cam lobe on the magneto is on 180 deg out. This happend to me before when I put the cam lobe on the magneto. This was points system though and the timming light showed 180 out. If your Engine ran before and you have not messed with the lobe this this may not be your problem.

The light will not flash bright. Just light up some.

with you mods to the stator I really cannot help. It's way out of my league.

The way my stator was drilled out was to spin it forward or clockwise. I have it set on factory right now and it wont fire up.

I'm going to try the black wire now.

Ok here are pics.

Stator in place and on of stator.

You can see that the stator has been filed to be able to make adjustments.

Tried all the wires the green one just makes the lamp light up. The black and the blue wires do nothing when connected.

When spinning the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) the lamp dims several times and non are around TDC (Top Dead Center).

Does the cam lobe in the middle of the flywheel slide off on the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) ones? If so slide it out and turn it around.

My points flywheel was like that making it 180 out. Not sure if the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) flywheels are the same though. And by looking at it looks one peace. The points has the timming advance in the flywheel.

Are those cracks in the magnets?

That's the right flywheel.

Got a closeup of the wire connections on the Stator, specifically the pulse coil? Blue wire, yellow stripe. Can't really see the connection in your pics.

Looks good, green wire connected to the stator plate?

Time to check each of the coils per the manual.

My stator only turns clockwise. The material was grinded way only in that direction.

the way you made the slots you will only retard timing and not advance. To advance timing the stator has to move oppisite flywheel rotation
