well I need a diagram if anyone has one. it seems the center gears sit about a 1/4" higher on the gears from flush, its seems like a bushing or something missing. I thought it did not have chain cause it just coasted and did not turn the clutch or disc brake.

so I opened it up and it was all there, chain and gears look new, the old owner said he did the axel, reduction box and bearings.
so what I think is going on is that the center small gear if floating off the reduction gear, so basically putting it in neutral.

any pictures or help would be awesome. if my description was not good enough, I will take some pictures and post them.

Thanks, Peter.

very cool thanks, he did part#2 with the gears on each side of the clip, instead of together on the long side. hope that's it.

You got a manual? I would inspect the chain per the manual while you have it apart. When he chain breaks it will crack the cases - trashing the tranny.

nope no manual, I know about the 81-84 chains I just don't got the 100$ atm to replace it.
only took me 10 mins with My snap-on impact gun to remove it. so the chain wont be a problem to replace.
I guess from what I've read, no more than 4 1/2" movement on the rear tires before the clutch turns?

it all works now, thanks for the diagram, guess that's why he sold it cheap lol.
