Stock '82 FL250:

Having a problem and am hoping you all can help me out. My Salisbury drive clutch won't close to engage the belt. I've taken the cover off and have sprayed PB Blaster on the springs and other moving parts, but no luck.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it time for a rebuild?

I would start by taking it apart and do a CSI to see whats wrong go from their if its just something simple you can find used parts for then go for it if not then its time for a 94C .

Thanks Hoser ... Turns out the movable face is rusted to the shaft. I'm going to start looking for parts for it, otherwise it's time to upgrade to a 94C.

hoser, took your advise and tore the clutch apart; turns out the movable face wasn't rusted to the shaft, but rather it was caught on theses things. Should've paid closer attention to the clutch when I bought the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )). Now I know why the guy wasn't asking much for it.

Not really sure what would have caused that damage someone was beating on it looks like to me, your probably better off going to a comet 94C but you have nothing to lose at this point take a file and file down the high spots and see if it will slide back over the shaft smoothly, if it does try it out see if it will work, I still would be looking to get a 94C..

I got it back together and will try and see if it works okay. In the mean time, I'm setting money aside for a 94C; didn't realize they cost so much.
