now does anyone know if 6v tractor lights would work? and is there some type of regulator to keep the lights from dimming at any rpm?
I was looking at these http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALL-6V-6-VOLT-8N-9N-JOHN-DEER-IH-TRACTOR-WORK-LIGHTS-GA-/301011590089?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4615b05bc9&vxp=mtr
or some type like them.

is there a way to make it 12 volt, like the 1980 points model? with out the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) conversion.
if so I would like to use something like this, http://www.ebay.com/itm/OPT7-Off-Road-LED-LIGHT-Bar-8-36w-Spot-Flood-Work-Truck-SUV-ATV-Boat-Car-Lamp-/111191611055?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19e38956af&vxp=mtr

happy fathers day, Pete

nope not that I saw, I have bills tips in my favorites.

I just was wondering what makes the 1980 model with points 12v? and mine is 6volt. I was thinking some type of voltage rectifier?
otherwise, i'll just buy some tractor light 6v with the h-3 bulb. I wanted the 12v led light bar. but I can live with tractor flood light if its a lot of trouble. I cant afford the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) kit ,its like 300$ without the flywheel.

I got more important stuff to buy before that. thanks for the response Hoser.

I think the Stator and Coil makes it a 6v vs a 12v. Partzilla list different part numbers for both the pre '79 and '80 Fl250s.

6v or 12v they are going to be AC voltage not even sure if they use a regulator on the 250, if you add a battery you would have to add a regulator/rectifier to convert the stator output to DC then regulate it so you didnt over charge the battery.

If you changed the charge coil under the flywheel to the 12v coil then you would also have to change the ignition coil to 12v too?

How much you need the headlights maybe just get by with adding a 12v battery and use the LED lights for night riding charge the battery after the ride? You could get fancy if you had a battery power tool at home and use that battery to power the lights make them fast and easy to change, charge.

I guess the 6v tractor light will work then. maybe one day I will score a junk 81-84 ody and change to CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) 12v
