Just bought an '84 fl250. Decent shape, been sitting for a year. My question is regarding the pull start. It is missing the cover that I can see. All that is exposed is the recoil cup. Do I need to puchase the entire recoil set up (the one that cost $250+) or do I have all those pieces and just need the cover? Anything else to look for? Guy said it was running last year but it has sat outside (no gas) in new england. For $300 I couldn't pass it up for a complete odyssey.

Welcome to the site!

Can you post some pics? Do you have a manual?

Thanks

I can get some pics. No manual, but saw a breakdown online. Looks loke I need the entire assembly, but don't see how it connects to the basket to make it spin.

Welcome new guy.
Here is a link to a good thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14350&hilit=pull+starter+fl250
It's a paw and ratchet type. If you want a manual I can send it to your personal email if you want it. Cant attach here due to MB size of the file, we are capped in the size of attachments we can add.

So it looks like I'll need a new pull start housing and mechanism. Man they're expensive. Something seems odd about this one though. The rear axle has a drum brake housing on the right side (not attached to anything) it also has racing graphics (like it was a race odyssey) wiseco piston stickers, ngo plug and wire, 6 lugs on front tires. Not sure, just kind of get the vibe theres more to it than first thought.
