Whats my best choice for a drive chain? I took the chain case apart, change the bearings and seals, and it looks like my drive chain is at the last of it's life, so might as well change it as i'm not going to want to do this all over again anytime soon. I see some choices on ebay, but can i just go to a local motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) cycle shop with the old one and have one made? I understand it has to be pressed together, no master link.

It's amazing how just wanting to do some routine maintenance turns in to a complete rebuild.

I don't see why you can't just get a chain with a master link and then instead of using cotter pins or the spring clip, just rivet it with a couple of hammers.
I am a bit of a Neanderthal sometimes but I just don't see why this wouldn't work.

Everything I read says to not use a chain with a master link. I'm just concerned with it letting go and ruining other parts. I ment to go out to a bike shop and ask this week, but the flu bug got me and i've been trying to kick it instead.

If you use a chain with a master link and the link fails.....

It completely destroys the outer cases!

+1 You break a chain and it is mass destruction. It was expensive to fix 20 yeas ago. I cant imagine today with them being so rare. We used to use tsubaki chains. They were the gold standard at the time.

I just bit the bullet and ordered a NOS Unit off ebay. Figure it will be here by the time I finally get over this flu bug.

Good deal, you're doing it right!

Hope you get over the bug quickly so you can go play!
