Post subject:  Would this carb work with my FL250

I have a 1982 FL250 that I just dropped a racing Engine with a water cooled head into. The intake boot is for a 32 mm carb. I have a stock 28 mm Keihin which I could find a boot for but that got me thinking - should I go bigger ;)?

Would either of these carbs work with this Engine?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003C ... QBZ3&psc=1 (40 mm Mikuni flatside)

If not any recommendations on a 32 mm Mikuni?

Thanks

We have the FL350 oddy and run the TM38.
CAUTION: there is more than one model of TM38. Read this: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17445&hilit=TM38+carb
The important part is the paragraph just above the picture.
I think you will find that the TM38 may not fit into your intake boot. It may try to spit it out.
The bigger the carb the less signal you will get, so you MAY be fiddling with the jets sizes to find a happy spot. I would say forget about the 40.
Another thought is if it is a set up race Engine and it has a 32 boot then may be it was set up for a 32 carb. Just a thought.

If it was me, I would go with the TM-32.

Thanks for the replies. I was going to go with the TM32 since it already fits the existing intake manifold, but then this caught my eye:
Quote:
NOTE: 32, 34 and 36mm carbs are equipped with 3.3 needle valve for gravity feed applications. The 38mm carbs are equipped with a 1.5 needle valve. For applications with a fuel pump

I have the stock fuel pump.

I could get an intake boot for the TM38 if need be.

If I do go with a 38, would this be the one?

The TM is a flat slide, the TMX is a "D" slide, the VM is a round slide. All of these carbs will work.
Pick one. But I would stay with the 32 so you don't have to make or buy a new intake boot.
Highly unlikely you will notice a real power difference between any of them and at the end of the day we are not running for a championship anyhow. Your carb is junk now so pick one you like.
You only need a larger fuel valve on the carb if you are running gravity feed with no pump.
For the FL350 I like the flat slide 38. Our engines really like this carb for some reason. No bogging or hesitation at any throttle position.
