Hello-

I picked up a radiator from an FL400 to use with the water cooled head on my FL250.

I was trying to see if I could get the fan to spin up by connecting it the tail light wires but it wouldn't spin. I can get the fan to spin up if I connect the fan motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) directly to the battery, so I know the fan motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) is good. Any suggestions on how to wire this in? How about the fan connector - any source for that or will I have to find someone trying to part it out? I looked at a few Pilot wiring harnesses for sale on eBay but didn't see that connector unless I missed it.

Does anyone know what these connections on the bottom of the radiator are for?

Here is a 90' Pilot wiring diagram if it will help.

As for a fan connector I think you will have trouble finding that. I wouldn't cut the original connector off because you do have a valuable rad there. I would just use stakon connectors on the end of the wires your going to attach and then tape securely.

If that sensor in the rad is not in water that is at high temp it won't trigger the fan to come on.
Remove it and put it in boiling water while it is all hooked up.

I am a terrible electrician, I hate that trade.
I would say yes put that one in the boiling water.
Check the pdf wiring diagram.
The one wire sensor is probably for the temp gauge.

I am thinking:
1) positive from battery to fan
2) fan to a sensor wire
3) other sensor wire to negative on battery

Once the water boils it should trigger the fan.
If I am wrong I hope others chime in here.

You can put the sensor in a pot of hot water with a thermometer in there. Take a voltage meter and set it connuitity ,you connect one probe to each wire and when it triggers ur voltage meter will beep. Check the thermometer to see at what temp it operated.
To avoid cutting the plug use spade connectors to connect the fan and with a q tip lightly coat the inside of the connector with petrolieum jelly and fill with silacone. This will keep the connections weather proof but the pateolieum jelly will make the silacone release easy.

The single wire sensor is for a temp warning light that u can test the same as above but put a probe on the spade connector and the other on the body of the sensor too see what temp it comes on at.

OK, thanks guys that sounds correct.

I connected it as you suggested but sadly the sensor does not trigger the fan when placed in a cup of boiling water.

Bad sensor methinks, I wonder if that temp sensor might be standard across Hondas so I could find a replacement?

All you need on a FL250 with a LC head is a Banshee radiator no fan no water pump.

That's what I was thinking too.
If he boiled that cup on the stove in the house and then went out to the shop it ain't gona be hot enough by the time he gets there, and it takes a while to heat up all that brass too.

Well, I tried the sensor-in-boiling-water trick. No go.

Figuring the sensor was toast, and I had nothing to lose, I barely touched the propane flame to the end of the sensor and the fan fired right up. It ran until I put the sensor in a cup of cool water.

I think that sensor should come on at 175 F, so maybe it's fried.

Now that you have "shocked" that sensor with the blow torch I would try the water test again. You never know.

Try the same water test with that other sensor that is for the high temp light. Maybe you can utilize that sensor somehow to trip a relay to start the fan.
