I put a radiator from an '89 pilot onto my FL250 for my watercooled head. Turns out with a little finaggling it can be secured by replacing the bolts on the upper back frame with longer ones. Is it necessary to add to a waterpump into the circuit? Also, the temp sensor for the fan was bad, so I replaced it with one of these: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Radiator-Cooling-Fan-Thermostat-Switch-For-Honda-VF1100C-VF1100S-VF700-VF500F/112087457212?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 It's supposed to close when the temp hits 150 (spec is 175) and I tested it in boiling water before I installed it and it spun the fan up right at 150. Make sure the sensor has a good ground. I run a separate ground to a radiator mounting point. Should fix u right up. As an after thought I should mention u need to use a relay for the fan but I'm sure u know that. Just wanted to mention it. |

Thanks. I will try grounding to the nut that holds the radiator. No, didn't know I needed a relay for the fan. Could you provide more detail? Any thoughts on whether a water pump is necessary? |

I don't know about a water pump. For a relay u can use a,standard automotive type of relay.a small black square box u can get one off the shelf at any auto parts store. One wire attaches to ur battery or stator hot wire. and needs a fuse in line. . One wire goes to the power line for you're fan aND id do anot her inine fuse on this wire also. . The last wire is the trigger wire it is the one that comes from ur temp sensor and it provides the ground to complete the circuit. The relay transfers power from the battery to the fan keeping the high amps the fan pulls from going through the temp sensor. They use these relays for other high draw items like lights as well. Any other questions just let me know. That's a basic run down. |

Here's what they had at O'Reilly's: Attachment: Relay.png [ 382 KiB | Viewed 4217 times ] Will this work? If so, what do I connect where? Also, will the fan only run if the Oddy is running? My feeble understanding would be: 85 goes to radiator temp switch. The other temp switch terminal goes to ground 87 goes to one terminal on the fan. The other terminal goes to ground A jumper wire connects 86 and 30 30 goes to positive battery terminal with an inline fuse Sound about right? |
