HI, Hope someone can help. My fl250 occasionally backfires and throws the Engine in reverse. When Engine is cut it snaps the starter rope. Checked timing and its fine. New rotor or points??....I'm out of ideas. Thx

Sounds to me like timing. How do you know the timing is fine? Did you use the light test? Could the key be sheared?

Post a few pictures of your fl250 please.
