Hello All,

I just got a FL250 as a father daughter project. I'm old enough to remember when these buggies were new and about the coolest thing in the world.

So far we've torn it down so just the suspension and Engine is in place. We'll repaint and rebuild everything over time.

My first question is about replacing the parking brake shoes. How do I get the cover off for the shoes? I can see the cover is attached to the axle by another plate that seems to have punch, or weld marks. Do I just file, or grind off the marks and the brake pad cover will slide away?

Thanks.

Here is a thread I posted with a lot if good info:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18393&p=177700#p177700

Anything highlighted in blue can be clicked on and viewed or downloaded.
There are parts books and manuals.

I'm not sure what your issue is there because from what I can see, everything should be bolt together.
Section 9 in the manual will give you a decent look at it.
Post a pic here so we can all see whats going on there.

Welcome new guy.

Interesting. I have the bolts off the big cover, so it's loose, but there's a smaller cover that's fixed in place, preventing the big cover from sliding more than about 1/4 inch. I wonder if this buggy has never had the parking brakes replaced and the small cover is original, thus seldom seen. I'll go and see if I can take a good picture. It's dark now. If it doesn't work, I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Thanks.

It's the gold cover that's holding the larger, black cover from sliding back. The gold cover has 3 punch/weld marks keeping it from sliding it on the axle.

Not sure if I attached the pic properly, guess I'll see in a sec.

It seems to me that the entire rear cover there should just slide back, incl that "gold" piece. As it seems to be all one. Below are some pics from the manual.
The shaft may just be full of smagnum and needs to be cleaned.
I don't own a FL250 so maybe someone else can chime in here as well.

I bet you may have to pull that splined wheel hub off first to get the cover to pull off.

Edit: Pull the wheel hub nut and the splined hub.

I'm looking through the manual now and don't see the gold cover mentioned there. The gold and the black cover are definitely two pieces. The gold cover is what's held in place, most likely by the punch marks. I'm guessing it's a separate dust shield

I doubt it will move much because it looks like the splined wheel hub piece is tapered. I think you gota pull the wheel hub first.
That "gold" piece is probably the "collar" mentioned in the last picture.

Ok, I see what you mean. I'll look into that next chance I get.

Thanks again.
