 Very unique looking to say the least. I was told its capable of running in the 9K range and makes 90+HP on 110 race fuel.

LMAO!!! Ya, I don't know who bought Bobs old cars but was told they ran em for a couple of years then sold em to Moskito. Moskito, pulled the engines and put in 4 strokes. that's where I got all the stuff. I ASSUME the Lords of the RTV were the second owners. :-)

Yeah I would not think anybody in the Briggs camp would use silicone to assemble the engines like that.

Cant wait to see these run I would be installing this one in the 350 you have the 410 in, if I had a Pilot I would be looking at making a Engine mount adapter so I could install it in a Pilot.

After drooling over the pics again... the belt driven water pump looks complicated and expensive I wonder if they went the belt driven route so they had variable coolant flow, low flow at low rpm and higher flow at higher RPM's, I wonder if the electric pumps were flowing too much at the wrong times?

Also see the adjustable ignition timing plate?

Thinking the exact thing as a posibility, the Leckich 420 machine already has works shocks all the way around. Hate to tear it down all the way. I may put the other Bob Briggs Engine in place of the Leckich for now. It is supposed to be 80-85HP. I will get another thread started on it. It also runs the same water pump system, also seen spare parts for them in a totetoo. I bought a couple more 350 frames to build on(a-arms, etc) so have 6 frames to chose from. Really need some "Baz"weather right now so I can get started. Kinda tough in neg temps with waist deep snow...depressing.

I would like to see the inside of that water pump too, you can see signs that the silicone homo was inside it at one time also.

I bet inside you will find a impeller off a something OEM like a Pilot water pump or maybe some motorcycle, home made housing for sure, shaft might even be home made?

Main interest is the seal they used guess it could be something OEM also.

LMAO, your killing me Hoser..."the silicone homo"! :-) :-) :-) He is worse than the "bling homos"! lol

I did see a spare impeller on a shaft somewhere too. I will open it up..just for you! Had too many Shiners Bockslast night and the head is still rough.

Found some spare stuff...looks to be fabricated stuff to me.

I'm totally guessing ,but could they have even run an electric water pump with this electrical system? No charging system?

Could the external water pump be so they could change the drive ratio to use less HP to drive it?(not enough room in stock location to add larger pulley?)

Definately a possibility Bullnerd.Probably depends more on the draw of the electric pump but I would think it would be fine. Being that they didnt run a charge system, they were trying to conserve everything electrical as possible...no power in mid race would suck!

I was told that a charged battery would last them all weekend. Not sure if they used a fan on the radiator or not. I had 2 radiators with fans and 2 without(Kuda got 1 with a fan). I only have one resivour tank. I do need to find more or something that will work as a subsistute.

The cars these engines went into were designed to be run about 1/2 hr max fact is most of them would be lucky to finish a 1/2 race with the gas tanks they had, when Renni and Bob came to WI to race 2 of the SODA races they both were running out of gas on the last lap of a 20 min race, the difference they seen was the fact that the tracks were 2 miles per lap and they were running WOT (Wide Open Throttle) much more than on the tracks they were use to racing.

Between heats they could change the battery to a fresh charged battery.

What draws more HP a mechanical water pump or a stator supplying power to a electric pump?

1 HP = 746 watts stock charging system is how many watts? That number is the MAX watts not what its producing all the time.

My guess is they were more worried about the weight of the flywheel than the charging draw of the charging system, put this on your list of questions to ask them next time you call :-)

Yeah, lose the weight of a flywheel and gain an adjustable super light water pump?

I remember reading that they also relied on the thermal rising(don't know the excact terms used) of the water to help it flow through the rad.Maybe this alows for a slow/er turning pump?

Every pic I have seen, they were mounted low and the res tank was mounted higher,of the briggs cars,Rennie owned 4 or 5 of them,
Bob owned 3, I think; hence the differences in the cooling systems,Bob ran his cars as light as humanly possible{from what Im told he was a lighter the better kinda guy} mech, water pumps,
Rennie ran the electric pumps.
In the early days Rennie and Bob worked close together on these cars...but had a falling out over something From what Im told..{{{all second hand info}}}}

Bullnerd,

Thanks.... I got my hands on one of the original ones along with the original heads for my 360

so Im good

Ya, but what a ride til then!!! :-) I have LOTS of spare parts and engines.

I will bet good money I can get some reliablity out of em too. I have had 1 piston failure in my Leckich 420/350 in 5 years and that was due to a base gasket airleak. Still running the same 88.50 bore too. The Leckich was another stadium Engine combo, just like these.

I pulled the head and jug tonight for an inspection before putting it in a Odyssey. Glad I did. I was told this Engine was running fine when pulled, and could be dropped in and go. Not in my book! Here are a group of pictures, look em over close and tell me whats wrong...and whats right. I will tell you what caught my eye.
