Shipper showed up on time as expected, nice guy, cool hauler it was full of bikes, the first thing I noticed was the parking brake sticks, the guy released it then said it wont roll back, I turned the lever on the caliper by hand and it unlocked I suspect the cable something to add to the list.

I was REAL busy with Cafercr's Engine so only had time to take a few quick pics and spent only a few minutes looking it over.

All the tires were low I assume it has to do with the elevation where it was picked up, at 500' here.

Engine fired right up, drove it to the house.

Here is a classic, K&N with the outer wear that people swear by, I pulled it back only to find the pleats full of sand, the outer wear did real good and stopping the big sand that WONT pass through a K&N filter and allowing the SMALLER sand that WILL easily pass through a K&N lol

I hope nothing got by and it was kept well oiled, I will find out when I pull the carb and reeds how much got by, down stream parts don't lie about filter maintenance...

that's the bad at a glance, the Engine started right up and seem to run ok, the trans shifted into fwd and rev as normal, I didnt run it only about 500' when I get time this week I will change the air filter air up the tires and further evaluate its running condition.

Nice pictures Hoser thanks alot-most everthing he told me about the Pilot has been true.Lets see what we have after a full diagnosis on he motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) know that the filter may have been letting sand in.The rad, is that fixable so think?
I have a belt-intake-overflow tank- belt guard-rad shroud, bolts for the roof lid-roof lid-all ready here I can ship to you, but will wait to see what the rest of it has to offer
I also have a floor tub-used plastics as well for it here.

I would continue to use the current plastic but I am not that picky long as it keeps the water and mud off me I am happy, I would keep the good or new plastic for the future if you want to sell it.

Belt and radiator guards are a must.

I noticed all the upper cage bolts are new, I also notice the upper cage paint don't exactly match the lower part of the frame, I will be able to tell more once I start on it.

Engine seem plenty rich it never cleaned out the short ride I took from the road to the house, plenty of black crap at the tail pipe it has the spark arrester screen installed I bet it needs cleaned

Nice find Mudbogger, only wish my rust bucket looked that good when I started.

Hoser, question about the plastic, you stated about the plastic renue leading to the sun cracking. What do you use for the plastic? Do any of you guys buff the plastic to get old plastic looking good again. I understand keeping the plastic useable but I like them to look atleast presentable.

I was also thinking of plastic welding two side panels together to make a longer side panel on the Rage Pilot I'm curently working on. At the weld poing I would have a custom sticker cover the weld. but it would not cover all of the weld area, just thinking of sanding it down and buffing it to make look presentable. Have any of you heard of plastic welding holding up? When I did a modification to my F7 Fiecat I had a plastic company weld up the overflow tank. It has been 3 years and it is holding up great, which is leading me down this road with the Pilot plastic. Also what is the OEM plastic made of?

(Sorry for the hijack Mud)
Thanks
Wayne

I think the plastic was already sun cracked and the owner tried to fix it with the renue I don't think the renue stuff will hurt plastic at least I have never head that it does.

I have heard the plastic weld works good but have never tired it, search the web I am sure you can find info on plastic welding.

OK, Belt gaurd-rad shroud I have here.I really am interested in compression, reeds, air leak test-etc.I will be working close with Hoser to use this Pilot for many of Hoser's tech-we will use it as a "test Pilot for "a Yoda front end analysis-Hoser dual air inlet set-up, and many other ideas that Hoser and the group come up with.I PURCHASED THE UNIT FOR 3500 AND SHIPPING TO DATE HAS BEEN CLOSE TO A GRAND-we will document ever purchase-etc on it for all to use in there projects for the future.I do apprec Hosers generousity here to allow me to ship this entire Pilot to him-

Parts so far needed as per thread:
intake
belt
belt gaurd
rad shroud
exhaust flange ring
bolts for reed cage
bolts for roof lid
roof lid itself
front bumper
fuel filter
fuel lines(if available)
rad overflow canister
e-brake cable
Hows that list Hoser??

I have the radiator core gaurd if you need it. Black plastic with angled fins to divert debris? Free to the cause if needed.

Hi
We had a lite rain this morning then the sun came out and it dried up so I took your Pilot for a few short laps around the hoser compound, after starting and letting warm up at idle for a few minutes I got in closed the choke harnessed up then dropped into reverse, works perfectly, smooth and normal, cables and shift fork felt great, backed up 20 feet, no abnormal noises, the reverse rev limiter still works, Engine blubbers just fine lol, dropped into forward normal no binding, drag or grinding, I will drain the trans lube later to see if all looks ok.

After a few short WOT (Wide Open Throttle) pulls (about 200' long) the Engine cleared out and ran normal seem to run ok but throttle repose is sorta flat, not crisp like it should be but still pulls strong as it accelerates, I made a few WOT (Wide Open Throttle) passes about 400' long then back into the shop to check compression, as I bent over the Engine to remove the plug I got a faint wiff of hot anti freeze but didnt see any leaks, I suspect its the repair job done on the radiator.

As found compression is 125 lbs, will be going into the top end for sure...

I pulled the filter and dropped my camera into the air box to try and get some pics of the intake snorkel, just as I suspected their was sand past the filter, a typical find when using a K&N with the expensive pantyhose thingie..
plenty of oil on the filter.. Guess the former owner never made it to my site and seen about K&N filters or the hoser pre-filter mod idea.

Seat is weathered has a few holes, it was bolted in with bolts that are NOT the Honda originals.

This might be a good candidate for one of them seat covers that was being sold a few years back?

Send the seat to that guy that does ATV seat covers to see if they can cover it?
