Its scarry yes, but someone put a lot of time into it. Seems the home made buggies end up being 8' long and super narrow. Neither seem like they would work well in almost all situations.
My first gokart was free and in rough shape. Got it running, didnt have brakes for a while then finally rigged those up. Tires were so old and stiff they hardly needed air. Reved the heck out of the stock 5hp briggs and stuff would rattle off all the time while driving (didnt know what locktite was back then). Frame had been boogered welded and was real weak in several spots. Steering colum support finally tore off and that was the point I decided to end its life. But I drove it a TON and enjoyed every minute of it.
Not familiar with that specific Engine, but might be worth something? Its no CBRF4I, but it would work well in some applications.
Pretty sure the narrow part comes from the available low cost or free quad they used
I remember the time my brother took the FREE go cart someone gave him that came new with a 3hp briggs
Engine on it and the FREE wrecked 340cc snowmobile and combined the two, he knew it would not be something that lasted long so didnt spend a lot of time and engineering on the design fact is he rigged it up direct drive and had us push start him, soon as the Engine fired it idled about 5 mph
First test ride he made it about 2 blocks down the street and discovered the throttle was stuck wide open, that flat metal plate that rubbed on one rear tire for a brake did nothing to slow him, thankfully it had just rained so he headed for a neighbors big open yard and did donuts until he could reach back and pull the plug wires LOL
Next test ride, throttle fixed he took it for a ride out in the country, came back 10 minutes later he said he had no idea what the top speed was but all 4 wheel bearings got hot enough to burn out the rubber seals and most the grease.
