Those axles look like beefy farm-spec u-joints.

I saw that one last night also and I about choked when I saw it. I didn't pay that much for my last car!

I would take U joints over CV's any time long as they work, I have had 10x more problems/maintenance on CV's than U joints.

I agree, CV's have always seemed like an engineered obsolescence to sell more parts and service. U joints are internally greased, easily serviced, mostly unaffected by small rocks, debris, and super cheap by comparison.
