Dimo,

Your low throttle issues are not with the Engine but with that carb set up. The carbs are too far away from the Engine to be running right, you need to get ahold of Nitrosport and set up a Seadoo carb like his 670. Don't do any clutching or tuning as it will not help a Engine that is not running properly. One of my favorite sleds was a 583 MXZ, could put anyone on it from kids to my wife to myself and have a blast - get it running right and you forget the stock Pilot Engine in no time.

Didn't notice the huge intake boots  . yup he needs a seadoo intake and it should help quite a bit!

I think the exhaust needs to be looked at before any other work

What is that set-up?

I'm very interested in getting it running right. Anyone interested in helping me out with this? Im not that familiar with seadoo intakes and sled engines. Or is anyone interested in a trade for their pilot?

Unless you understand what is going on with that exhaust (which I honestly don't) you should start by photographing that expansion/muffler set up in detail and getting some opinions

Send me a PM. I'm more than happy to help you out getting this thing dialed in. I'm nowhere near you but can work you through it . I've got a 670 in my pilot with the seadoo carbs and intake and couldn't be happier!

Seadoo carbs and intake will get rid of the huge intake length you have and make the throttle pull easy. I'm sure with those dual carbs the throttle pull can be a bit stiff. I know my Yamaha 570 fl350 was stiff. After a day of riding my thumb was a bit sore! Lol

I personally don't see anything really wrong with the exhaust that would hinder performance. It is ugly and there are many better ways to do it? Yes. But to me it looks like a stock 583 pipe that was shoehorned in there. If the side-bleed is what you are unsure of, that is very common. My summit x 670 pipe is a side bleed and is one of the better pipes for the 670 engines.

Learn something every day then...thanks

I guess the pulsing and side bleed can play together after all

I'll go back to my corner now

Good luck on this , hope you get it running and enjoyable

Consol,
No need to go to a corner the original Engine swapper did not want to mod the pipe to package it better so yea it does look out of place. The center dump is a good pipe configuration was used by Skidoo on most of the rotary valve engines, so with out more pictures the pipe does look right. It's all pointing to the carbs at this time. I personally have never used watercraft carbs, only the OEM carbs that came on sleds, as I mounted my Engine high enough to clear the trans. This looks like a band aid for clearing the trans. Back in the day one popular performance mod was to go to a shorter intake manifold to get the carbs even closer to the Engine.

Hey guys thanks for the help, it starts up great and runs fine, idles good to just way to much torque... I had a great time in glamis and tore the whole desert apart. raced some yfz450's and eat them alive. But with this setup its only good in the sand im having trouble controlling it with dirt and trail riding. My family has a ranch and I love riding there so that's why im considering going back to a pilot. Any help is appreciated but as of now I think im just going to sell it or trade it for a regular pilot.

thanks guys!

Hey guys, I'm very happy with it!! Just got back from a weekend at Glamis and It did everything once I put some paddles on it. I have a video and will load pics shortly. In my opinion it's still got way to much torque right off the line. Hopefully when I post some pics one of you guys can give me a suggestion on how to get a better takeoff. Compression is at 140 in the left cylinder and 132-135 in the right I'm hoping a good carb cleaning, spark plugs and cleaning the fuel filter/ lines will correct that (Yes I know that's unlikely and I will probably end up changing the top end or one cylinder).

Also yes that's the one from the pics, it has K&N filters on it and all the metal on the a-arms, exhaust and frame was re painted with combination of red and black. A much bigger radiator and fan that my brother and I threw on there from a 94 civic lx. I'm going to change the fuel tank to aluminum one from ebay as soon as I find a good deal on one and finish this last tank.

Wheres the video? :-)
