The MAF screen was actually already removed when I got it. There has been debate on LS1 forums on if it really works or not. I saw a thread where they did 5 "free mods" (remove MAF screen, polish the throttle body, modify the stock airbox, coolant bypass, and EGR delete) they gained like 12hp on the dyno (but those numbers can vary simply by weather conditions and what not) and they also ran it on the track before and after (again, weather conditions) and they picked up a few thenths, which for a street car really isnt all that big of a deal. Regardless, the screen was gone when I got the car.
Right GM spent 5x more to monitor air flow than they really needed, 5x more cost times millions of automobiles, you really believe these after market morons , the honeycomb idea was developed in the HVAC industry and is proven to work, everybody knows adding the honeycomb to the inside of the duct will reduce flow that is why the duct is greatly over sized so flow is not restricted they also oversize the duct to slow air velocity for more stable and accurate flow readings.
I guess the question everybody should have been asking is where is the proof the intake was restrictive in the first place, so many has been brain washed that every intake system on the planet is undersized ever seen this is a myth created by after market industries to extract billions of dollars customers 99% are too dumb to question they just buy, add a little bling and it sells faster haha
Most don't want to know the truth simply because they cant handle the truth knowing they gained nothing crushes their dreams and egos.
Guys fiddle with things like the MAF screen then never check the air pressure in their tires OEMs had to install sensors in the rims that illuminates a light in the dash for these morons.
12hp on a dyno is nothing talk to a dyno owner that is honest and willing to talk you can fool a dyno to read what ever you want between runs, where are the independent test, their is none because nobody is smart enough to insist on them being performed they just eat up the bullshit because it was presented in a commonsensical way (everybody knows the honeycomb will restrict flow) and never questioned, guys smart enough to know its a scam are the ones you don't see buying and yet enjoying watching other piss away their time and money.
Every gain/loss attached to the automotive industry can be backed 100% by science and easily proven beyond a shadow of a doubt but all this is left out because it would collapse the after market industry, if it would help them sell parts you would see the science.
Remember when the 400EX came out and the flood of go faster goodies that followed, I left mine 100% stock had a friend that spend 1400 bux on a pipe carb
CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) air box kit bla bla bla when he was all done we drag raced he was about 2" faster than my stock 400EX after we ran
WOT (Wide Open Throttle) 5th gear for about a 2 mile stretch, he was 4x louder so he had that going for him, even with his wallet 1400.00 lighter he really was not any faster, I was impressed he read all them magazine articles and internet crap written by all them experts.
