I am looking for a good useable starter for one of my 350's. I am also willing to buy just the armature if its in good shape if someone has parts lying around. Planed to rebuild my starter but the copper on the armature is wron and gone.

Yes. The copper is chipped away from being so thin.

Whoops ... I must have been mistaken ... no starter.

I've got lots of bottom end parts for an FL350r, but a starter isn't one of them ... sorry :(. If you need a flat side carb, Engine cases, gears, a balancer, an air cleaner box, shocks, an exhaust pipe, a silencer or shocks .... I'm your source for cheap parts ... contact me if you need something.

i believe this one is rarerat here on the forums. Maybe send him a PM and see if he will give you a discount, or open it and make sure the piece you need is in good shape.

Yeah that's the only one on there that seemed reasonable. I figured I might just pick up a new on there for the $106 that they go for.

Its going to be a hit and miss on the starters. I've had to replace about 5 starters and out of the 5 there were 2 that were defective because of housing casting issues (stripped threads @ 7 pounds of torque). Unfortunately these are made in.........you guessed it, CHINA!

That's why I have yet to pull the trigger on getting one haha. I figured they were more cheaply made as well.

I wound up using the end casting from an old starter to get it to work.

1.) Be aware also that the electrical connection is on the bottom side of the starter to don't be alarmed when you receive it and it doesn't match the old starter exactly. The Ody's starter power cable is long enough to reach so its not an issue.

2.) There is also an additional hole drilled and tapped on the starter that you will need to plug or it will probably collect dirt and water.

I figured there would be slight differences between them. I think as long as most of the parts are albe to interchange between the new one and my old one. I'll swap over some of the old parts in place of the cheap China stuff. The starter I pulled out had the cable stud on the bottom, assuming this is an oem starter?

If I had the upside down pos+ cable mount Starter,I'd be looking at mod'n the case locating tabs,so as to rotate it back up to the top where it SHOULD be.
Reason is,the water, rain, washing etc will always flow down and gather around the POS+ bolt and worse still be held there constantly in the rubber insulator cap cover.
Inevitable failure in my book.
For those that already have them,or going to,make sure to use Dieletric Grease all over the cable mount area and under the cap.
It's non-conductive grease, will keep all the moisture away and help prevent volt loss.

Nope that's not an OEM starter,

That is a genuine imitation aftermarket Chinese special! OEM starters have the electrical connection on the top.

The starters I purchased worked fine but the end castings stripped out when torqued to spec. Save the old starter body and see if you can rotate the end caps so the connection is on top. like Baz mentioned! The worst you will do is ruin the old starter that was junk anyway.

If the end casting strips out you can swap it from your junk starter.

Ok thanks for the help guys!

Going to order one today. I don't see rotating the stud to the top being much of a issue. The armature housing is just sandwiched in there. I'll try it out on the old one like you said Rand.

Thanks again!
