I need all four oem ball joints for a pilot. They can be on trashed arms or good arms but we only need the ball joints. This is for a Dave-co LT job

didn't the trx450 use the same ball joints? couldn't you buy a cheap set of those and cut out the joints

Yeah if there the same, Dave says the pilot ball joints will travel more.

I have asked many arm makers about the 450 joints and not 1 told me they would work with the pilot spindle they look close by eye but the top joints are visibly smaller. That and the 450 spindle is smaller and a poor choice for a heavier pilot

Hi hoser, happy new year to you, I am not sure about the 450 joints, I have asked a kot of people but no one can answer it, contacted all the aftermarket arm builders on e bay, most all said no before saying they were not sure, I bought 450 arms off e bay a while back to see for myself and the damn things did NOT arrive ever, I saw a. hyme-ball joint for the 450 for 113 for 4, when I get extra money I am going to buy them and see. Untill then I will use pilot joints

I used the pilot ball joints on my long travel front, they did not last. Cycling the suspension by hand and everything appeared ok. Once it was abused in the trails, that little extra bit of flex from the weight of the machine overextended them and quickly wore them out. I switched to the heim joints and have not had any wear issues since. The 450 spindles have held up just fine too. Smashing rocks, trees, and anything else that gets in the way for several years with no issues. That spindle while a bit smaller than the pilot, is still a chunk of steel that is a whole lot stronger than the paper thin a arms that it bolts up to. It also offers better tie rod arm geometry vs the pilot spindle.

Your using pilot or 450 ball joints? are you telling me they fit?? All I want is a straight answer. NO aftermarket ball joint or hyme does what the Pilot joints do. i bought some arms to try them and the guy never shipped them and to this day has not responded and had to open a case with e bay I have had zero issues with pilot ball joints, they allow 16 inches of real wheel travel , no hyme comes close to that, looked into uniballs, not enough articulation, the shocks i use stop the ball joints from topping out and pilot ball joints seam to last forever, hitting trees doesnt count lol. The pilot joints far out travel the pilot tie rod ends. ATV racing used vw ball joints which on a pilot is over kill but the problem with those is they don't travel that far, heck a vw ball joint front end travel exactly 6 inshes bottom to top PERIOD.

Originally I used the pilot front ball joints (this is on a front long travel btw) With a pilot spindle and ball joints, the tie rod does become the limiting factor. Use the 450 spindle and the bellcrank design for that spindle eliminates the tie rod as the limiting factor. On a +2.5 arm set up, you can use stock length tie rods. Moving the lower shock mount around to allow for the most suspension travel and using the shock as "stop", I ended up wearing out the upper ball joint on both sides (the lower joint has been fine) Switched the upper to a heim with high misalignment spacer and made a "kingpin" set up to attache it to the spindle. This has worked well for several years for me. Also, look into the suzuki quadracer ball joints. I have made over 13" travel with those ball joints on other projects.
