off road kart dune buggy home made, my son pot this together when he was 17. He never finished it, but the Engine ran when he bought it. I think it is a Honda CBR 650. This is a good project for someone. Has a lot of good parts on it. I will deliver for free locally. Jim 818-694-9222

Ooooh long travel! Only took 4 old bed frames to make the chassis. I'd steal a stop sign and bolt it to the steering wheel. What the heck is that off of? Never seen an steering wheel like that.

Awe come on guys, it was just a kid that built it and everyone starts out somewhere.. I have said this countless times, but I can respect anyone who will get of his @ss and try and build something, even if it is a total failure. I would much rather see kids out in the garage interested in building stuff like this, rather than being glued to the computer playing stupid video games or worse... Heck when I was around 13, I stuck a 76 CR125 Engine in a cheep 2 seater go kart. I used the front and rear tires & wheels from a 70's ST90 on the rear. It was a peg leg on the left side and the only brake was the right rear tire. It was fast as hell but the biggest death trap you ever saw, but I rode the $hit out of it & had a blast.

I would have been laughed off this forum, surprised that hasnt happened yet, if you saw my first home built gas powered go cart. It was a Maytag washing machine Engine mounted to a wooden go cart, haha looked like something the Spanky and Alfalfa from Little Rascals would have ridden!

I agree I would like to know how the kid turned out, keeping them focused on a project like that IMO is key.

Its scarry yes, but someone put a lot of time into it. Seems the home made buggies end up being 8' long and super narrow. Neither seem like they would work well in almost all situations.

My first gokart was free and in rough shape. Got it running, didnt have brakes for a while then finally rigged those up. Tires were so old and stiff they hardly needed air. Reved the heck out of the stock 5hp briggs and stuff would rattle off all the time while driving (didnt know what locktite was back then). Frame had been boogered welded and was real weak in several spots. Steering colum support finally tore off and that was the point I decided to end its life. But I drove it a TON and enjoyed every minute of it.

Not familiar with that specific Engine, but might be worth something? Its no CBRF4I, but it would work well in some applications.

Pretty sure the narrow part comes from the available low cost or free quad they used :-)

I remember the time my brother took the FREE go cart someone gave him that came new with a 3hp briggs Engine on it and the FREE wrecked 340cc snowmobile and combined the two, he knew it would not be something that lasted long so didnt spend a lot of time and engineering on the design fact is he rigged it up direct drive and had us push start him, soon as the Engine fired it idled about 5 mph :-)

First test ride he made it about 2 blocks down the street and discovered the throttle was stuck wide open, that flat metal plate that rubbed on one rear tire for a brake did nothing to slow him, thankfully it had just rained so he headed for a neighbors big open yard and did donuts until he could reach back and pull the plug wires LOL

Next test ride, throttle fixed he took it for a ride out in the country, came back 10 minutes later he said he had no idea what the top speed was but all 4 wheel bearings got hot enough to burn out the rubber seals and most the grease.
