So you pulled out your Engine with a bad crank and your trying to get $3450 for it? Planning to trade the broken Engine for another pilot? Wow

Why the hate? If you don't like the pricing, clam up and move along.

Says the guy who wants $800 for an air cooled pre recall Engine that needs parts replaced with no electronics or anything...... Pretty sure the point of this site is to help one another out and not gouge each other. eBay is for the price gougers. They have no choice but to clam up and move on over there. Here we can speak up. I've got to honest I just laughed when I saw these prices and thought wow this guys high on something. If it works out please let me know. I'll buy every pilot Engine I see and part them out. I'll be riding in a trailer queen for free before you know it.

Lets see. Where to begin?

The Engine was stuck due to moisture in the crank. Didn't effect the cases or any other part of the Engine.
I don't need another pilot , I have 2 now.

And where were you when I posted the question on what you guys thought a fair price for these parts would be ???????
With no feed back from the pilot community , I did the only thing I could.

I went to E-bay and looked them up. Then cut most of the prices I saw by a fairly large margin...
And at the bottom of my add , in big bold red letters it sez "OBO"

If ya need something , just ask but please don't be a dick.

The crank is in my opinion a lump ( rusty ) but was told by others from the dark side that it was worth rebuilding. You decide.
If you want it make me an offer.....and good luck..

Yup pictures of Pilot Engine parts none of the pictures are detailed enough to really show the condition.

I was going to buy the crank and have it sent to you speed, but the photos worried me that it might be too far gone. That's what I pm'ed him about yesterday. I'm not sure its worth 75. I'd take a chance at 50 plus shipping. Looks like Speed is the high bidder.

Using the correct tools you can take the Engine apart without any damage to anything most people don't have the correct tools and wont spend the money to buy them to end up damaging the parts trying to get the Engine apart.

All the important stuff, the cases need to be taken in brighter conditions and not fuzzy, need to see detailed pics of all the gasket surfaces and the bearing pockets, the cylinder and head same thing close up pics of the gasket surfaces and pics of the bore all sides.

Better clearer pics of all the rest, what happen to the flywheel?

Shame someone took the time to take the Engine apart then never done anything with it.

Why was it taken apart in the first place?

You are correct.
Most people don't have the proper tools / case pullers clutch pullers etc to properly break down an n FL-400 Engine.
I however am not one of those people.

I own and operate a fairly well equipped Machine and fabrication shop. A mech engineer and am anal retentive as hell.
Been doing this sort of thing for about 35 - 40 years.
I haven't touched the case mating surfaces with anything but a light gasket scraper , as I want them to remain stock and un-molested.
Some will deck or polish surfaces beyond tolerances , I didn't want there to be a question or concern related to that here.
I did the tear down my self . The Engine had never been apart up to that point. No pry bars screw drivers or hammers were used.
I actually spent more time machining and fabricating the case separator and pullers than actually tearing down the Engine.
I am however not a photographer..... and I freely admit it.
I would be happy to try again and utilize your advice . I just need to borrow my wife's camera ( if she will let me ) May be I can con her in to taking the pics. I bow to her expertise.
The flywheel is not for sale.
The cylinder is sold.
The crank shaft ( lump) may be sold )
So I won't bother with them.
The story behind this machine is a sad but common one.
Daddy bought his three sons a pilot in 1990 (1989 ) machine.
Had acreage in the Portland metro aria. They rode (drove) it on the property until 1994 when it was rolled. ( LONG STORY )
Daddy took sed evil device away from the spoiled children and stuck it in the shed.
Then in 2014 I acquired sed machine as a part machine for a restoration that I promised a very old buddy of mine.
The Engine was moisture stuck , as it was never fogged or stored correctly.
I am the second owner of this machine . and know it's entire history. And , by the way , have the original title, owners and dealer pack. As well as the key blanks and patterns. ( Daddy re-key'd the machine so the spoiled little shits couldn't ride it any more ).
Hope this answers you'r questions.
Thanks for the help , I'll provide NEW pics for anyone that needs them.

Yet you cant order a CR500 rod kit, disassemble the crankshaft and install a the new rod?

That reads like a oxymoron...

What do you think Speedchaser does for a living.
