Need some help here you blokes.
A fellow aussie has asked me to help him out looking for a Phaser
motor ((
Internal Combustion Engine ? )) for Uni project.
Here's some copies from him.
Gday to all,
I'm new to the site. Have been researching Engine choices very heavily, and was recommended that i join this site and start a thread. I am looking for a couple of yamaha phazer (genesis 80FI) engines to ship down here to aus. Don't need to be mint, just chasing prices and easiest way to go about shipping them. I was told there are a couple of other aussie members who have taken on similar shipping endeavours with great success.
Any help, would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
I have no idea how expensive they are to start with, but the cheaper the better. This is for a university race team (Formula SAE), and we are mostly self funded, sos eeing as we don't get to keep the car ourselves in the end, we prefer to be bloody cheap. And we are used to getting wrecked engines (been using 450cc single for 7 years). Hence, I have managed to become quite an Engine re-conditioner. I wouldn’t be wanting to spend much, as I still have to get it here and trick it out. Any rough estimate on prices of Engine / powertrain / whole sled? That factors heavily into my choice of Engine.
Gday baz,
Chasing the 500cc phazer genesis 80Fi Engine. year... not a big worry, as long as there are no major changes (The team has used 3 yamaha wr450 engines from 3 different years, with major differences, so anything is an improvement) The main things is that they all have relatively common parts. I am in a bit of a hurry. I have picked this project up and it is in a shambles from idiots last year. Because of this there is a lot of pressure from above to "fix" not "change". so once i find one (or preferably 2), it will have to be air freight. Also need to adapt a gearbox, as the cvt won't suit our competition very well. So belt driving from the original crank pulley to a dry clutch may be an issue, not sure if this is something that has been seen before. ANyway, i will continue my search, and thank you very much for your help.
Cheers,
Jesse.
