I'm building from scratch so I need some input new to the ATV scene. I plan on doing a 440 snowmobile motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )). I do WTB a trans. Thanks

If you are building from scratch, then I would not go with a Pilot or Ody gearbox as they are too old, pricey, and too limited for parts IMO.

http://rpmgearboxes.com/ The RPM gearbox is probably the most proven trans for small to medium size buggies. Has many different gear ratios available.

http://www.stak4x4.com/1_mini_buggy_fnr.htm Is another option, but has not been around very long. I don't really know much about them, not sure if you can get different gear ratios or output flanges like RPM.

Another option would be to use a snowmobile chaincase with reverse, and then build a chain or gear reduction box after it to drive your axles and get the reduction you need. This is the approach I took with my buggy, which also uses a 440 sled Engine.

speaking of this , What is the reduction in the stock FL350 and pilot? Scratching that itch myself, looking at rev rotation kit for my rotax, then replacing the trans with what ever will fit. or work. Thanks

Nice buggy ....

I have heard that the 350 gear box does not hold up so well to bigger motors, some debate that this is due to jumping and shock but on the tranny but I cant say, I have not got mine built yet. I have heard nothing but good things regarding the RPM trannys, and there used to be a Chinese knock off of the RPM that was supposed to be good too and much cheaper. Theres a member here who posted some pics of his sled 350 with the knock off. i'll try to find it.
