Here is a vid series I did on cleaning rusty gas tanks. The $20 POR15 starter kit will seal both the fl350 and fl250 tanks. I have cleaned many tanks in my day. This method is by far the best. I do not recomend Kreem sealers. I had Kreem tank sealer fail a few times now. If Kreem is done right it will and can work. BUT it's not even close to por15 in the forgiving department. POR15 has no harsh chemicals as well. Best of all is the cost is only $20 and 2L of Coke.

Here is some por15 testing I did with brake fluid, gas, and paint stripper. Nothing will even touch it. Also the video series on cleaninbg the tanks. I missed some thiongs in the vids so feel free to ask here. These are older video and learned more. Nothing magor to change or update the vids though.

Here is some info I got to try por15 for tank sealing. This idea was taken from the TV show American Restorations when Rick Dale used POR15 black to line a old gas pump/tank. This started my testing of POR15. I have did about 6 tanks this way and it is rock solid. A member here Rarerat has used the starter kit do his FL350 tank and is happy with the results. I think he said he had some por15 left over. So it does not take much. I recomend the por15 silver starter kit. The silver has much more filler in the paint and will seal pin holes with ease. The regular por15 tank liners that cost $45 is also silver. I swear they are the same products. They just charge more for it's a tank liner branded.

Hey I watch a few of the videos you have and I have a question on what do you use in the tank initially chemical wise when you first start usein the electrolysis.

Bighead can correct me if I'm wrong, but for the electrolysis the solution is generally 1-tbsp of Arm & Hammer baking soda per 1-gallon of water.

When I did the tank for my daughters 350, I just dumped half a large box of baking soda and filled it with water from the garden hose. It worked great. :-)

Does the por15 plug the pickup tubes? I need to do my 350 tank this winter... She's a bit rusty!

Thanks,Randy

It didn't on her's, but right after applying it before it had a chance dry, I shot some air through both tubes to make sure they were clear.

There's 2? Is one the supply and another a vent? I'm sittin on the couch and can't picture how to blow the 2nd line? No pun intended!

Yes, one is the main and the other is a reserve. If you remove the petcock you can use your blow gun and shoot air through them both.

What do you use after you rinse with water to prevent rust from starting again before its dry or you put in the por 15? Or do you air dry overnight and the put in por 15 next day?

I pulled the drain plug out & used my heat gun to dry the inside. Once it was dry I went to the Por 15 step. If it slightly flash rusts while drying I wouldn't worry, the Por 15 will adhere to any slight surface rust.

What do you do if both pick up lines are plugged, where you cant blow air into either of them. Will the electrolysis unclog those of rust and corrosion. My tank has been sitting with gas in it for almost 15 yrs.

I don't know, I've only done the one tank and didnt have that problem. I would do the electrolysis and then try and blow air through it and see what happens. i think I only spent about 5 bucks on the baking soda and the piece of all thread to do it so it would be worth it IMO to see if it would work.

if you check my thread on electrolisis cleaning my 2nd tank was completely plugged and managed to get it open again...

Stella, i just remove the fuel cap, lower tank skid plate and the fuel line from the carb and vacuum hose from the crankcase. There is no need to remove the fuel filter or pump, although its probably slightly easier if you remove the filter( ive never done it though). It does take a little wiggling and moving but it will come out pretty easily. When you do get it out check the lower fuel line maybe partially plugged inside the tank? The 2nd tank i painted with por 15 was plugged solid and i managed to save the tank by cooking it 2x and a little sulfuric acid to finish the job and now its a good tank again with no plugged lines. Tank #4 is clean no need to paint that one and so is the pilot tank with the exception of a 8" long stick in the tank?? how does that happen?? LOL[/quote]

My guess is someone was using it as a dipstick to check their gas level and dropped it in on accident.
I had a quad with a 9" piece of fuel line inside the tank from the last owner who said he accidentally dropped it in one night checking the fuel level.
